Question about Husqvarna Designer I

1 Answer

My husqvarna designer 1 sews fine but the good stitch is on the bottom and not the top. Is there a setting to reverse this? I can't seem to find it anywhere in the manual.

Your tension settings are incorrect. See your owner's manual for proper settings for the top and bottom.

Two more things to look at:

    1. check to make sure that the bobbin thread is running through tension area by the bobbin. If it's not it will create a loose stitch on the top. The thread will still pick up, but there will be no tension.

    2. Next, make absolutely sure that you are not missing an area on the thread path.
Finally, we don't know your experience level, so if some of our solutions/questions seem insulting, please don't take offense. Sometimes, even experienced people miss basic stuff, it the product is new to them. Thanks for using Fixya!

since the sewing machine was given to you, it might be a good idea to have the sewing machine serviced to see if there is a problem with the reverse and stitch setting.

Yes there is. Go to the SET menu and look at the Balance icon. There is a plus and minus choice. By trial and error (only click once or twice at a time) you can adjust how the Omnimotion stitches sew out. You should always use a stabiliser underneath when you are doing these stitches - it helps a lot! There is an excellent and not expensive booklet available through Secrets of Embroidery website and written by Carolyn Duncan that deals exclusively with Omnimotion stitching. She prefers to program these stitches and use her embroidery hoop, but gives good advice on how to sew them directly at the machine.

I don't have a manual for a Husqvarna 6440 and don't know how to switch from zigzag to straight stitch. Everything else seems to be sewing beautifully and it was on straight stitch when I first tried it. I...

You have 3 knobs/dials on the machine, the top left dials the stitch, the top right sets the length and the bottom right set your width. set it 0 for straight.

How do you use the Plus Hoop on a Husqvarna Viking "Rose" Sewing Machine?

The plus hoop is a multi positional hoop that allows you you to embroider designs up to 4" x 6". It is essential for monogramming and lettering using your Rose. The Rose hooping system is the same as the 1+, the Scandinavia 300 and 400.

The designs you use must be formatted for the plus hoop. That is, the design has already been divided into two or three elements. Each element is an individual design. For instance, say the design is a long stemmed rose. It would probably be divided something like this: design 1: the flower and the top part of the stem, design 2: The middle part of the stem and the leaves, design 3: the bottom part of the stem.

You would hoop up your fabric to be embroidered, attach the hoop to the machine, set the hoop to position 1, select design 1, stitch out design 1, set the hoop to position 2, select design 2, stitch out design 2, set the hoop to position 3, select design 3, stitch out design 3. You should have a complete design when you're done and everything should match up perfectly!

The hoop is divided up into three squares, 4" x 4". Position 1 square overlaps position 2 square and position 2 square overlaps position 3 square. This overlapping allows the designs to stitch out more smoothly.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions. Carrie

Reverse sewing button stuck HELP!!

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.

Free Motion Sewing - Jams

The Designer 1 usually has a very nice free motion stitch using the V1 stitch. It should pull only slightly to the rear so that no bobbin thread shows while doing free motion embroidery. Upper tension may be increased for balanced stitch when stippling.
If your machine doesn't sew with the regular stitches with the teeth up, and it's properly threaded, the thread must be dragging on the bobbin case somewhere. First get the machine sewing a straight line, then try V1 again.
