WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards The fans in your Hewlett Packard laptop computer are important to keeping its processor from overheating and frying. Over time, dust builds up within the blades of the fan and the copper heat sinks that distribute the air. This causes the the computer to heat even faster. To keep this from happening, clean the fans in your laptop regularly so they will cool it down faster. Don't wipe away the dust with your own hands. Use a cotton tip or air to remove it.
Unplug the laptop. Disconnect its AC connector. Remove the battery. This prevents any electric shocks while working on the computer. Turn the computer upside down. Unscrew and remove the computer's RAM cover. That makes sure it isn't in the way. This is located behind the battery crevice. Remember each screw and where it was located, then store the screws somewhere safe. Remove the main plastic cover over the vents. Remove the ducts and covers that are on the laptop's two fans. These are the metal covers over the wide cylinder surrounding the fans, and they are held in place by very tiny screws. You need a number one screwdriver. Remove the screws very carefully so as not to lose them, especially anywhere within the laptop's interior. Wipe or blow away all dust collected on the fan blades and the fan's copper heat sinks. Compressed air will work best as long as you don't send the dust anywhere else within the laptop's interior. If you don't have a compressed air blower, wipe away the dust with a cotton swab. Place and screw the ducts and covers back on the fans. Re-attach all covers on the laptop and connect the battery. Check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-February-2012/1490 Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink. Hope this helps

How do I fix the System Fan 90B error on HP Pavillion dm4?

Laptops are fickle things. I tried looking up your model "DM-4" on HP's site, but there are hundreds of variations depending upon the sub-model you have. Most HP laptops have an available "Service Guide" that can be downloaded from the support site. This is important as it shows how to disassemble the unit for repair and upgrades. Your problem COULD be a bad cooling fan. This, of course has a replacement cost. BUT, it could be as simple as a clogged heat sink that is rendering the fan useless. Get your complete model number, go to HP.com and see if you can download the service guide. If so, see how hard it is to open the case for cleaning. Many people use their laptops on their laps (really not recommended), on upholstered furniture, and even their carpeted floors, all of which are massive dust and dirt holders. This stuff gets sucked into the laptop and restricts cooling.

My hp laptop pavillion dv3 video card over heat, then shot down but cooling fan is working properly! what is the solution to these trouble?

the cooling fan in a laptop is mostly for keeping the whole system cool unless you have a custom vid card installed. make sure the vents underneath are clean and invest in a fan for the laptop. I got one on e-bay for less than $10 and have seen them at Wal-Mart for $14. an external fan is your choice I haven't had any problems since I got one for mine

This morning when I tried to start my laptop ( HP Pavillion entertainment PC) I got a flash window that due to the cooling fan 902 issues the start up could not happe and I have been advised to contact...

When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

Everytime my charger is plugged in, my laptop decides to turn off. It gets really hot underneath. Do you think i'll need a new fan?

Check the vents. Quite often it's a build up of dust on the fan and surrounding area.
Give it a good blow out and see if that helps

Hello, I have a problem with my widescreen. I have a laptop (HP Pavilion dv2418ca, Windows Vista, Memory 2,00 GB, Processor Intel (R) Core (TM) Duo CPU, 32-bit Operating System) and my widescreen...

It may be caused by overheating. Overheating is the main problem with HP portables. Use a fan to cool down the computer and check how long it last working. If blowing air with a fan "Appears to fix the problem" stop using the computer and get maintenance service for it. The processor area needs to be cleaned.

Overheats and freezes

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed-air.
Give the computer a "blow-job", because dust inside the computer is working as a layer of insulation, i.e., not allowing your computer's fans to cool itself.

Over Heating

Hi, Quite a hard problem to fix on a laptop, the laptop will need to be opened up, heatsink will need removed and new thermal paste will need to be applyed to the processor, also cooling fans will need to be tested, ok if you have worked on laptops before, but i would advise taking the laptop to a shop, if you do not have much knowledge of computer repairs with this fault.

Have a nice christmas
