Maybe something wrong with multifunction switch? Your lower stop lamps are wired through the multifunction switch, the high mount stop lamp isn't wired that way. The lower brake lamps and turn signal, use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. I would start by checking main fuses under the hood. water could have cause a short also check battery cables to see if they are heavy enough to carry the amp load needed to start the car. factory cables are not heavy enough after a few years.
check for power at the fuel pump if there is power turn the key to the on possition and listen for the fuel pump to come on this will be a humming sound comming from the rear of the car
3 times I have ran in to this and found the key ring was over loaded and ended up wearing out the ignition key switch due to the extra weight. The contacts become misaligned causing the car to shut off at anytime, not remain running after key is released during starting.
This happened to my Wife, and Grandmother if you have a lot of keys put them on something else and not your cars key ring if you can help it.
