Question about Computers & Internet
External monitor works fine. Apple did diagnostics and GPU fine. I'd like to know if its the LCD or inverter.
If the image or text is streaked then the CCFL lamp is faulty and about to fail completely.
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I have a problem with my hp laptop monitor's hinges, could you link where you were able to purchase those hinges?
Also, make sure you monitor's ribbon cable isn't missing any wires or that all of those wires are fully contacting.

this sounds like a classic case of inverter problems, it could be just inverter coil thats gone which is an inexpensive repair, if it is the inverter then its a bit more.
try the Fn the F key that shows two tv screen icons, it may just have switched to external mode by accident

SOURCE: Dell Vostro 1510 laptop screen
This is actually a common problem with Dell machines. It is using the external display port as the primary display. You need to go into the display properties and enable the LCD, and then make it the primary. Afterwards, you should disable the external in windows, and on next boot, disable it in the bios if possible.
I used to have this problem come up randomly, whether I was using the port or not. The real trouble is that it will not default back to the internal display when no external display is present.
If you need an option to fix it without a display, you can keep a monitor cable in your laptop bag. If you boot the machine with the cable plugged in, it will not be able to identify your external monitor, and revert to the internal display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the
external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by
shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most
likely your video card is bad.
