SOURCE: boiler making a loud hissing

sounds like a stuck expansion valve, the compressor makes pressure, but it can't be released to absorb heat from the desired environment. You could go to the manufacturer's website, request a detailed diagram of your system, find the expansion valve and order a new one. Can you put it in yourself and recharge the system? Probably not, call a repairman.

SOURCE: We have just bought a

This can be caused by several things. Incorrect Gas to Air mixture in the burner air intake valve. . Debris in the gas line to the boiler. To high a gas pressure. Depending on whether you installed this unit or not, will determine if you should try to repair or troubleshoot these issues. If it was professionally installed call the company that installed it. The only one you can't troubleshoot is the gas pressure. That needs to be done by a certified gas technician.

Hope this helps steer you in the right direction to solving the problem.

Optimax he 31 c whirs loudly but makes no heat

After calling an engineer it turns out it was a faulty fan (The loud whirring should have given this away...) Apparently this is a relatively common fault with this type of boiler. Only solution is to replace the fan which, as of 2010 is still under warranty and can't be bought separately, so you'll need to call Ferrolli.

it seams the valve that senses water flow is not operating properly, causing the boiler to keep heating the water when it has nowhere to go,i,e the taps turned off, thus boiling the water.

I have a multifuel stove which runs my central heating system from its back boiler. When it gets really hot there is a loud clicking and knocking sound from the rear of the stove where the thermostatic...

That clicking and knocking noise you hear is called cavitation. It's when the bubbles of steam are cooled down rapidly and implode upon themselves. Cavitation is not a good thing to have in a boiler as it can cause dramas. This cavitation is more than likely because the boiler is firing too hot. A service technician should be called to turn the regulator down a little bit.
