Maytag Model MGD6400TQ Front Door Won't Shut Completely

The metal catch that should engage the metal stud is loose. I'm having trouble removing the catch to either replace it or repair it.

Thanks aborcass. That did the trick. Now I need to find out why the same dryer makes a loud whirring sound as the drum turns. Clothes dry just fine, but the noise is annoying.

Heres the aprt number for the "catch" , if you have a problem removing it i would simply push it into the door, it will fall to teh bottom , no need to worry about ti wont hurt nothin.. its meant to grab and snap into place as you push it into place, whichis why itdoesnt wnat to pull back out the same way W10111905

On Maytag dryer model # MDE9316AYA how do I get the top off? One of the fins inside the drum is loose, and I hope I can reach the screws to tighten it up by removing the top, but it won't budge and...

Opening the cabinet of these machines begins with the cabinet top. There are two spring catches located just below the cabinet top that secure it to the rest of the unit. These catches are located towards each side edge. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to slide in under the cabinet top to disengage each of the clips. You can now lift up the cabinet top.
With the cabinet top lifted, you will see two screws located inside the top of the cabinet front. Remove each of these screws and lift the front panel to disengage the two clips found at the bottom. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

sounds like the door catch is loose, this is what holds the door shut, when the clothes are spinning they hit the door opening it enough to reset the door switch, there's a metal or plastic tab that goes into the catch, easy to install and part is cheap money

Seems to be ppower, cheched fuses where the box

this is most likely caused by the door switch. if the door is not closed, the dryer will not turn on, period. you will have to try to jump over the 'possibly bad' switch. first, shut off the breaker. second, wrap a putty knife with masking tape to prevent scratching up the dryer. then, use it to pop open the plastic catch on each front corner. take your time and look inside the small gap with a flashlight to help figure it out. after you have the top of the dryer safely tilted back, look for 2 wires running to the door. they will plug into a switch that is flipped when you close the door completely. you know what i mean, it probably used to click when you shut the door. unplug these wires from either side of the switch. use a piece of wire to connect them or just tape the metal ends together. this will bypass the door switch. make sure all metal parts of the wires are covered to prevent a short on the metal walls. be sure the now loose wires will not get caught on anything, like a rotating drum. close the lid most of the way. turn on the breaker and try to operate the dryer. if it now works, replace the door switch. be careful, opening the door will not shut off the dryer now. good luck

My dryer door will not stay shut. It seems like the little clip that is supposed to keep it shut no longer catches. Do these clips wear out? It looks fine and seems to fit- just doesn't catch

Take a second look at the door.

Is the spacing the same between the door top and bottom as it fits into the front cover?

Over time, people/children will rest weight on the door as it swings open, bending it downward. You may see rub marks where the door is hitting the bottom jamb.

Pull hard to bend the door back up, OR unscrew and re-tension rhe 4 screws that secure the hinges to the front frame.

The door should close more completely now, Spray a little silicone lube on the latch.

good luck and I hope this solves the problemn.

Maytag drum baffle came loose and catches clostes when drying

I had the same problem and just fixed it. First, open the door and remove four screws, two are holding the door on and the other two are in the same place on the opposite side. Lift the door up and pull it out to remove it. Set it aside. Pull the front panel down. Admire all of the **** that has collected inside the dryer. Next, there are two dark colored metal clips holding the top down on the upper right and left. Remove the hex head screws holding these on. Wiggle them to release them and take them out. Now the lid will lift to reach the screws holding the fins on. Tighten as necessary. Now would be a good time to get the shopvac and clean the lint and junk out of the dryer. Reverse the process to put it back together. Problem solved!

Loose baffles in Maytag dryer

To remove the top, you usually have to push a putty knife in at the top corners, from the front. This pushes a spring catch. On some Maytags, the front comes off, screws below the door area, and it swings out.

How to remove a back panel of maytag neptune dryer?

You have a choice for which side front door should be on this model. There are 4 screws on front door. Take all 4 screws and pull down the front panel. You will see two metal parts each side which holds top panel. Remove two screws and metal parts. Now you can push up the top panel.
