Question about Dishwashers
I rent an apartment a year ago that came with an old Miele dishwasher G685sc. The spring of the door is broken (I think) and we have to prop it up with a little stool when loading. A service man just left after taking things apart and said the door will always be heavy and it couldn't be fixed. There is hot water coming out of the air vent every time we open the door after a load is finished. He said that to replace the part, it would cost 200+ euros. The conclusion is that we'd better off buying a new but cheaper machine. Is this true? If not, I will try to complain. Thank you in advance for writing back.

First thing you need to do is SEARCH for "spares"
for your Miele G685sc
We don't seem to have "parts" for your G685sc here
in the USA...
but a casual look over BOSCH hinge and spring costs
show the hinge at $20 USD
SPRING at $10 to $19 US Dollars...
Lower door gasket $20 to $30 USD
AT those prices I would attempt to avoid a "new"
dishwasher... When you are done trying to get a HEATER,
silence and stainless interior...
You are looking at BIG MONEY.
Check the FIT of the door... and health of the gasket(s)....
I'm just saying... I would
(it is the ULTIMATE in recycling).

Yes solved by pulling door apart. There is a small drain tube from the bottom of the ventilation vent, which had some blockage.
Cleared it put door back together and now works just like new.

I have had the same problem. Here is what I've done. Take the door apart (a whole bunch of screws on the side of the door). The front panel will come off and you will see a rubber tube. Take it off and blow it out. Then take the blower out (you need to unscrew the inside of the blower). Take apart the blower and clean it out.

I had a similar problem. Check the control knob that turns the machine on. At this age, it sounds like the control knob is either bad or a wire has burned off. Check to see if their is an internal fuse in the washer.
