Question about Garmin nuvi 260W GPS Receiver

How long does the garmin nuvi 260 hold a charge

Hi, I have to use my gps in a different vehicle and I can't find a angled adaptor for it to fit because of the weird shaped ashtray. It will not take the straight plug so I ended up with a charger for the house. I want to know how long it will last for a charge. Does it have to be plugged in or just have a charge? Or can I just turn it on 3/4 into my trip will it recalculate? Help Thanks Lisa

After using my garmin 260w to a destination, I left it plugged into my cigarette lighter while I went in to my destination. When I came out 3 hours later it was still plugged in but there was no display on my screen. I could not get a display no matter how much I moved the on/off switch around. It acted like the batteries died, but it was plugged in the whole time I was out of the vehicle. Do you have any ideas. I have never abused it and I take good care of it. First, get a new charge for your car. You're screwed without it.
A full charge should last for 2 hours if batteries an decent.
It does not have to be plugged in and you could turn on while on your trip.
Lisa, your 260 is a great unit. Get the new adaptor.
By the way you can find a extender for your current adaptor at Radio Shack that work around that funky ashtray.
Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.

Garmin nuvi 260 battery does not hold a charge

If a wall powered charger is used it could be bad or the connection from it to the unit damaged---happens if the charger is connected/disconnected a lot----same thing can happen if using the lighter plug adapter for charging.

Garmin gps doesn't work when charging with cigarette charger. Instead of the GPS to Navigate it rather shows like there's a data transfer.

Hello,

The proper vehicle power cables for the Garmin nuvi 260 are part numbers 010-10723-06 or 010-11478-03.
The use of improper cables will cause the nuvi to go into mass storage.

I dropped my Garming Nuvi 260 this past weekend and when I turn it on it goes to a screen saying Updating GPS Firmware 1% then jumps to Updating GPS Firmware Complete. It keeps popping up with these...

Inspect the bottom of your Nuvi 260. According to the owner's manual, some models have a small "Reset" button on the bottom. If yours does, you'll use this to reset the Nuvi 260.Press and hold the "Reset" button for several seconds, until the Nuvi powers off and powers back on. Next try
to slide the power switch on top all the way to the left to reset your Nuvi if it does not have a "Reset" button. Performing this action resets the system.
Next try a hard reset.
Slide the power switch to "Off."
Press your finger against the screen in the lower-right corner. Hold your finger in this position.
Slide the power switch to "On" to turn the Nuvi on. Continue holding your finger on the screen until the pop-up window appears. When it does, press "Yes" to reset your Nuvi to its factory settings.

Hope this works but dropping may have caused internal damage. If this does not work you may have to send it back to Garmin for service. I will attach a link for Garmin. Thanks for using FixYa.

My nuvi 260 will not display anything . It turns on okay with the Garmin introduction and then screen goes blank

Sounds like a battery problem. You may have to send to Garmin for replacement of the battery as it's not user fixable. I also highly suggest using a Garmin approved charger/ car charger if you don't have that!!
Or understand this:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} There are three ways to charge the internal battery in your automotive GPS unit.1
  1. Use the provided vehicle power cable that came with your GPS unit. The unit will charge while powered on and using the device as well as when the GPS unit is powered off and plugged into a running vehicle. About 3 hrs for a full charge. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
  2. Use an AC power adaptor. Some units come with this power cable to plug the GPS unit into a wall outlet allowing the GPS unit to take a charge. For units that do not come with this cable, one can be purchased from Garmin's online store.
  3. For most units, the final way of charging the battery is to plug the GPS into a powered on computer with a USB cable2. This method of charging will be a trickle charge and it may take longer (like a full day) than the other two options, however it will still charge the battery. A USB cable is provided with a few GPS models. For those that don't come with this cable, one can either be ordered from the online store or you can use a standard USB to mini-USB cable that fits the unit and plugs into your computer.

My Garmin nuvi 1300 brightness problems

I spoke to Garmin Support about this issue. There are 2 settings for contrast on the nuvi 1300. You need to set the contrast while it is plugged into the vehicle, and also while it is unplugged from the vehicle. The reason for the 2 settings is to save the charge of the battery while it is not plugged into the vehicle or power source.

Please charge the unit with the vehicle power cable or on a computer for at least three hours. After charging the unit, it should power on and function normally. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
The nuvi 200 series, 300 series, 600 series, 700 series, 1000 series and the StreetPilot C300 and C500 series do not have user replaceable batteries. Raytech is a repair facility for Canadian customers. To repair your device please contact the specific repair facility for your region. If your device is not still under the 1 year warranty, there will be a cost associated with the repair of your device.

It take a day to charge the 260 WITH the correct cable for your computer as it will only trickle charge it.
Car charge does it in 2 - 3 hrs. If car is not charging it check the fuse in the end of the charger
