The best way to find out if you need SATA or IDE is to open the case and look. If you have gray cables about one-inch wide with a red line on one side then that is IDE. They are parallel cables. If you have anything else then it is SATA which is a serial cable. I have never been to the Acer Website but I know on Dell, HP, etc. they have a place under support and drivers that you can go. Type in your model number and download the drivers. I don't know if you have another computer to do it, but unfortunately if your restore disk do not work then that is where you will have to go...also see if you can contact someone at Acer and find out why your restore disk do not work. I have wiped my hard drive clean and I was still able to re-install the revovery disk.....Hope this helps.

Try this because I have had that problem in the past also. For some reason it will not read the CD/DVD disc unless it is formatted first. So you would have to format the disc, burn the drivers onto the disc and then put it back and see what happens. It should read it with no problem. If you have any problems let me know. Either that or there are two types of formats master and Live. Master everything reads it, but live not all systems read it.

Yes, I understand that. The reason the Vista is saying that no device found is because you did not format your cd before downloading the driver files. You need to put a blank disc in your cd/dvd burning software. Click on Format disc, then download the drivers to the CD. Then the Vista program will be able to read you cdrom.

The rescue disc that can only be made on your laptop by your laptop contains the required drivers. The Vista DVD on has generic drivers and may have specific drivers missing.
Are you attempting a fresh install or are there fragments of an old troublesome system still there?
If there is fragments left, after checking that the rescue/restore data is no longer on the hard drive, format the drive first and try again. It should then work.

I would suggest going with XP Pro first off but what you need to do is get into your bios and change the boot priority to the cdrive as the first device then harddrive as second. Put your XP disc in and reboot the computer after a few moments you should see press any key to install ...... this will start you off with the install from here on follow onscreen instructions.

Onsce at windows desktop you will need to get a ton of drivers and this is were the fun comes in. Use support.intel.com for all intel devices inside the system. After that you will have to goto your device manager and see what still needs to be installed. Now you will have to hunt down the manufacures websites and go to there support page and get needed drivers.

Missing Vista home basic product number

Acer gives you the option to create your own cd's. Click the start button & go to all programs. Look through the programs installed. Someting like DVD pro. or nero. There is a program in there so you can creat your own set of restore cd's. The reason your PC is so slow is because Acer loaded the system up with a ton a junk you'll never use. (Can always return it). I would befor the warranty runs out.........

Good Luck!
