Question about Maytag Neptune MAH9700 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Maytag Neptune 9700 series

Okay, first we have had the washer (brand new) since Feb. 2007. Last night my husband went out to the laundry room and put in a small load of his clothes (couple jeans, shirts and an insultated shirt). During the drain/spin cycle he heard the washer thumping like the clothes needed to be repositioned. He noticed that the washer had an E3 code and opened the door to the washer. When he did, a large round band/spring type thing fell out of the washing machine. After further investigation, he noticed that the clothes that he had put in were wedged between the outside of the drum and the inside of the washer frame/houseing. He also noticed that the washer had "eaten" or ripped the arm totally off of his insulated shirt.

Has anyone else been through this type of issue? I know that we all talk about the "dryer eatting the socks" but now the washer?

Thank you for any assistance:0)

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE OUTER BAND TO HOLD ON THE DOOR BOOT/SEAL. WHAT I HAVE SEEN IS THAT AN ARTICLE OF CLOTHES WAS NOT ALL THE WAY INTO THE WASHER AND IT WAS STARTED, PULLING THE DOOR BOOT INTO THE WASHER. THE ONLY OTHER THING I HAVE NOTICED WITH THIS NEW BREED OF SUPER CAPACITY WASHERS IS THAT THEY LIKE BIGGER LOADS TO HELP BALANCE THEMSELVES. IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT IT WAS SO SEVERLY OUT OF BALANCE THAT IT PULLED THE BOOT INTO THE TUB AS THE MAYTAGS OF THAT MODEL LINE WERE KNOWN TO NOT BE THE MOST SENSITIVE TO OUT OF BALANCE CONDITIONS. THERE IS A CONTROL BOARD KIT THAT COMES WITH A MOTION SENSOR NOW FOR THEM AS AN UPGRADE.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

This is symptomatic of a water control valve not closing completely- its no power/fail position is closed.
Whichever it is, hot or cold, needs replacing!

I am trying to hook my washer up to a laundry room valve, but it keeps leaking and giving a "NF" code... Is the valve faulty or does my washer need a new hose to hook up to a brand new home's valve?

try changing the washers in the hoses / don't use red outside hose washers/ but hi pressure for fill hoses . home depot should have them . and ck the valve screens at the washer side . clean screens good washers . ( water flow's and washer should work .. mm

yes, but 900 is a little high for my area. is it loud in spin now? the seal can be replaced for about 50-80 part labor is 1 to 3 hours. if you just smelled the smoke and it is not loud you are ok for a long time, reduce load size and it will probly be ok for some time

Mildew/Stagnant water smell in washer

you know, this does happen.

run it on a full cycle, warm, with either of these in solution.

baking soda, at 1/10 concentration

non chlorine bleach, at 1/6 concentration

you most likely need to do this more than once, until your nose is happy.

Also, consider doing this at least once every 200 wash cycles.

essential oils have same effect, and do a nice anti microbial as well.

we did this in commercial laundries all the time, as part of standard health code compliance issues.
