42U is the most common height for computer racks. U is a unit of measurement which equals 1.75 inches. so 42U means that it is 73.5 inches, which is a little over 6 feet (6' 1.5")

it would be improbable that you put too tall an item on the top rack every time you wash, but it is also impossible to check without a see thru tub. Just make sure there are no tall items and maybe lower the top rack.
Some dishwashers have the top arm on the bottom of the rack and use a connection in the back when the rack is pushed in. If yours does make sure it isn't deformed and not making properly.
There's aspray arm at the bottom of your dishwasher--it may have a tall spray tubemounted to the center of it. There may also be a spray arm located directlybeneath the upper rack of dishes and/or above the upper rack.
If debris is blocking the holes inthe spray arms where the water comes out, it could cause cleaning problems.Regularly inspect each of the spray arms and clean out the holes as necessary.
I have the same dishwasher, have for about 2 years. It took me about a month to figure this out... But, you cannot run it with the flatware rack hanging on the bottom dish rack, you have to move it to hang on the door and you cannot have anything in the compartment under the soap dispenser that is tall enough to block it from opening. Annoying design for sure!
Everything I'm reading indicates there are "rack fitment points" where you will have the room to insert the cross bars. I'd get a tall ladder and look carefully along the entire rail and maybe feel with your fingers for a point that is slightly different. That should be the place you can insert the slats.
The upper spray arm does not fit on the back of the dishwasher. There is a separate "Extra Tall Item Sprinkler" piece (about a 3-4" round gray piece that looks like a shower head) that mounts in the back of the dw.
Note that this option is only to be used with the top rack removed (i.e., for washing tall items in the lower rack). Refer to page 37 of the Use & Care Manual that came with your dishwasher.
I have a Bosch dishwasher with the same "mystery" part. According to my manual,this part is an Extra Tall Item Sprinkler (select models). Apparently, if you are loading in extra tall items, you take out the top rack and insert this part into the top rack spray outlet (located a the back of the dishwasher). Turn it clockwise to lock it into position. Put your extra tall items in the bottom rack. Hope this helps!
