I have a hp a610n, I need to know how to set up a wireless connection through a wireless router I have hooked up to the desktop in my upstairs office. I also have a linksys compact wireless network adapter that is suppose to pick up the signal from the router. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
Do you have the CDs that came with the router and the adapter? If you do, you can run the Router CD on your PC upstairs to configure the Router, and Run the adapter CD on the a610 to configure the adapter. If you don't have the CDs, I need the brand and model number of the wireless router, and the model number of the linksys adapter. If you need help physically installing the card, let me know.

No, there is no extra cable cord needed to hook up a laptop to a wireless router. Please tell me what you have tried to do and I will help you get connected. Did you set up the router? Do you know if there is a password needed to connect to the wireless network?
Let me know where you are at and I will help you get connected.
All you should need to do is connect the HP printer to your wireless router via Ethernet cable (which should be included with the printer). Follow the instructions that came with your printer to set it up on your computer.

Double check your physical connection. It should be this way
Modem > connected to Internet Port of the router PC > connected to port 1 Laptop > can be wireless
Now you must power cycle your router and modem. Turn off router first then modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Power on modem first, then the router. You must configure the wireless settings on your laptop it doesn't connect automatically.
No. You do not need to have a computer connected via a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable to the router for a laptop to access the wireless signal.
However, to set up the router to broadcast that wireless signal or to alter some of the wireless security settings you will have to connect directly to the router with a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable.
If you need assistance connecting to that wireless connection, let me know. I have some instructions which can help retrieve the security information from the router so you can connect to the Internet via the wireless signal.
If your HP computer is connected with a wire to the router, you don't need to run or install the setup CD of the router you just need to connect the HP computer to the router with an ethernet cable and restart the HP computer and internet should already be working fine, But if your Hp computer is going to work wirelessly with the router meaning the HP will not be connected with a wire to the router, You just need to connect to the wireless network of your router if your not familiar with that I will advice you to call Linksys tech support so one of their tech can walk you through with that process they are open 24/7 this is the number 800-3267114.........
There is a 90 % possibility that the wireless settings on the gaming adapter and the router are not the same. Try to reconfigure this again. Remember that the gaming adapter's wireless settings needs to synchronize with that of the router to make the gaming adpater works. Call netgear and verify the settings on your wireless connection and reverify the settings you have on the adapter. For manual instructions, see user guide at www.linksys.com/download
