Question about GE WCVH4800KWW Laundry : Front Load Washers

1 Answer

My GE WCVH4800 washer is 6 months old. It turns itself off many times during the cycle, starts again, but starts OVER

Although I have not checked my trap yet, I don't think that is the problem as the washer does drain completely. Sometimes the "door lock" light flickers on and off first, then the washer turns itself completely off. Sometimes the washer just stops, then the door lock clicks on and off and it starts again. Today the washer started, it had 126 minutes on the front, it stopped at 121, then started again at 126, then stopped and started about 4 more times, each time going back to the beginning. I finally had to power it off and place it in the drain and spin mode manually. It completed that cycle.

I did check and clean the trap, there was not much in it, some lint but nothing big. It didn't help unfortunately. I read other solutions, but since the washer was still under warranty, I did not try them as it would have invalidated the warranty. I have a serviceman coming out. I really appreciate the comments and this site and will use it in the future! Thanks so much!

It's probably the door switch, but it could be the wires just need wiggled or reseated to their connectors. Being just 6 mths old i would suspect a bad connection before i suspected a bad part. Still if it's under warranty you are probably wisest to not mess with too much. Good Luck.

BH Countryman, Thank you, I suspect that it is the door latch as well, the door closure has always been finicky. After the technician has been here, I will let you know. Thank you for your help with this, it is nice to know that you are out there! JoDe Smith

Well first check the trap. It can cause those symptoms. Let me know if issue continues.

SOURCE: Door Lock Clicks/Makes noises Washer does not agitate/spin

Sounds like very worn motor brushes to me, as its trying to turn the drum but has'nt the power needed to maintain any momentum, and the blinking door light is because of the bad cotact from brushes to motor.About £20 for a set of brushes or get an engineer to fit new brushes, but get a price first.

I removed the three screws, and lower cover cleaned the few pennies, screws and nasty gunk build up from the filter. The wash machine seems to function as it did prior to the clogged issue. Thank you everyone !!!

Please, check to insure that your washer is properly grounded. If you do not know what that means, call an electrician. Modern wash machines are controlled by circuit boards that operate on low voltage and are vulnerable to static electricity. Spikes or gaps in the electrical service from your power company could also be the problem. Your electrician should be able to help you with that as well.

Hi!!
The "Metallic banging/clicking" sound you hear is the Shifter mechanism engaging or disengaging.
The drive system will engage at the start of the Agitate Cycle and disengage when the Agitate Cycle is complete. This occurs multiple times during the wash. GE claims this is a normal sound and should not be concerned about it. Check page 10 of your Operating Manual, if you do not have a manual, click on this link to download one http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-90323.PDF

Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

This has happened to us also. Our machine is 27 months old. I just had a non-GE repairman out and he showed me the mutilated belt. I was wrapped around the pulley. He said that the pulley had to be out of wack in order for this to happen because the belt looked in great condition (besides being in 3 pieces). Then the metal wheel (don't know the official name) is now warped and had gouged 3 grooves into the cheap plastic outer tub. So badly that it went thru to where the water is. So NOW, I have a big piece of scrap metal in my basement. I need a new outer tub, pulley, belt and at least 2 hours of labor. So a bill of 4-500$. I think GE can take this hunk of metal! But of course, GE has to send out their service man to inspect it. So I have to pay another service fee. They need to scrap this model and possibly others. What a waste of a whole lot of money. NEVER again.

check the 4 rubber cords at the top of the tub. If the washer has been moved they may need to be adjusted, you can see them by looking between the top of the tub and the top cover. You can turn them with your hand, and you may need to tighten them after.

GE Adora Frontload Washer shredding clothes

We were having the same problems with ripped clothing and longer cycles. Our rubber seal by the door has ripped twice now causing massive amounts of water to run out. I learned through other threads that many people are having these problems and was told that zipping up zippers and turning jackets and clothing with big heavy stuff on them in side out to protect from ripping the clothing and the rubber seal. I removed the panel on the front bottom of the machince and there is a small gray cover that housed the coin trap. Mine was clogged and once I cleared that out, my cycle times got better. I hope this was somewhat helpful. We definitely won't be purchasing another GE front loader!!
