If your telephone line may have disturbances from any electronic devices at any point then this could happen. Try moving other devices especially speakers, mobile phones and TV near the modem. Does your laptop wifi enabled one? Do you use telephone in that line? If so use a line filter with two out. could you give your laptop model no.? There is not enough details to pinpoint the problem
The slot is used for camera memory cards such as the SD memory card. No, it cannot be used as a modem. However, there should be a jack just like the jack for your phone on the wall of your house, this is the dial-up modem connection. Simply connect it with a telephone cable to the wall from you laptop.
This problem can
be due to the software not handling a certain dial tone rather than a
specific hardware fault. Around the world there is a variance in the
signal quality of the dial tone which causes a report of no dial tone
detection. Disable the dial tone detection to prevent the system from
trying to detect a dial tone.
Disabling dial tone detection for modems: Windows XP
Select Control Panel
Click Switch to Classic View to change the control panel view
Click Phone and Modem Options
Select the Modem Tab
Select the installed modem (Example: Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR)
Click the Properties button
Select the Modem tab in the Properties window
Click Wait for dial tone before dialing to remove the check from the checkbox
Select the Advanced tab
Add X3 to the Extra initialization commands field in the Extra Settings box
Click OK twice
Select Switch to Category View to change back the control panel view
Close Control Panel
if this does not work trying re-installing modem drivers.
Disconnect the phone line from the modem and connect a normal phone to this phone line. Lift the handset and check it you have a dial tone and see if you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone then there is a fault with the phone line and it needs to be repaired before you can use your modem.
just go to the modem properties and you will see a option there called wait for dail tone if u see tick mark there please remove the tick mark your problem might get solved. if this doenst work then check up ur cable and the modem
Dial up modems have 2 phone line connections side by side in the back of a desktop, one is for the wall, other is for your telephone. Laptops have just one phone line connector. Look closely at the little symbols by the connection holes. If you don't have one, Modems (internal or externally mounted), are on eBay, buy a 56K with drivers on disk for your operating system. A few modems can be installed using Windows default drivers (drivers are software operating programs that tell your computer how to regulate and operate a device).
here's some help...go to : start menu, all programmes, accessories, communications and to hyper terminal..type in test, and click o.k.,make sure all the settings are o.k., type in your mobile or your second land line number to test if the modem dials that number.if that test works then contact your i.s.p to check on your account.
Tryr another phone jack in your house if you havent already. or plug in a normal telephone to the outlet your computer is hooked up to and make sure the line is good.
Also did you recently add voice maiol to your phone line?? if you pick up the phone and it goes dt-dt-dt-dt and then gives a dialtone the delay causes the computer to not know it is reaching an outside line.
Finally do you have technical support with the company you pay for your internet service??? they can probably help you narrow it down as well easier than us guessing online.
