I went and bought new ram for my computer. it's an IBM desktop. type 6792. a pc133 512MB sdram. my computer will not pick it up. how do i get the computer to pick up the ram? it is the right kind of ram?


I checked at http://www.buffalotech.com/products/memory/select/select-dimm/ and according the the memory configurator there your IBM Netvista 6792 takes this type of memory which can be ordered from them PC-133mhz SDRAM DIMM 168 pin, it indicated that your pc has 3 slots for memory and the maximum size you can put in each slot is 512 MB which would give you the maximum memory of 1536 MB. I have had problems in the past when replacing memory in IBM PC's some modules won't work because IBM uses different memory than other Manufacturers. But give Buffalo a try, their memory is guaranteed.

It seems, that you should replace motherboard, I've seen this kind of problems in my office, after year or two you won't be able to turn it on at all. In my opinion, it's bad quality capacitor on motherboard.
Any way there is little chance that it cold be bad PSU, but it's really small chance.

when you boot hit pause when it gets to the screen just after the memory screen is finished. hit the pause button... it should say which key(s) to hit to enter setup.
Is there a bios password and you can't get past that ?

hi,

First try Using one at a time, since its not advisable to use memory chips with variable bus speeds i.e (333 & 266).
Since IBM Computer are little complicated i would suggest your to call the customer care or Tech support for assistance in buying a Memory module. In that way you can cross check the memory module you have bought is compatible with the computer.

no jumper just touchy mobo on ram u buy u have to buy ram off ebayt samsung low denstity 64x64 chip config ok like i did and it workeed mark this as fixed ya so others can get same help thx nick
