Question about Hotpoint NVL333EY Electric Dryer

I have a hot point dryer, mod#NVLR333ETOWB, i have taked the dryer apart and unpluged the element and checked continuity and i get a solid continuity tone. i put the dryer back together and still the dryer will not dry.

    I am working on a hot point m#nvl33b4cc and the dryer is not heating. I checked the limit switch and heating element and both are good. The resident noticed a big spark at the receptacle and the terminal were the coord is attached is charred pretty good. Could this be the source of the problem?

Have you checked to make sure that the breaker for it is good? Have you checked to make sure that the wires are tight going to breaker? How old is the house?

Whirlpool Dryer mod #wed5300sq0 .......ran all night one night without stopping, figuring at this point the timer, so changed, still no heat and timer still not working either.


First you have to determine whether you element is in the front or the back of the machine this is done easiest by looking at the front of the machine and seeingif its one complete piece or two. If its one, the element is in the back, if two its in the front. We'll start if its in the back first. Tools you'll need is: 1/4 nut driver or drill with 1/4 adapter and a multimeter with ability to check continuity. With the machine unplugged, remove the back cover of the dryer. Once done, the heating element will be located on the right hand side with two fuses on the housing of the element. Test the element and each fuse seperatly by removing the wires and checking for continuity on each component. All parts should show continuity, so if one doesn't its bad and needs to be replaced. Now if the element is the front everything is the same with the exception of you have to remove the lower portion, usually held on by 3-4 screws located underneath.

Diode? Ain't no diodes. 3a90295.jpgIf all of theses items check good you might have a burred contact inside the timer. These dryers have a timer that is easy to take apart. Gently remove the motor and cover, look for a burr between the leaf switches. File em down smooth. Let me know.

Have a Kenmore Elite Mod#11062932100 It will run but has no heat. The heating element appears to have continuity. What can it be and haow do I test for them?


on the element housing u have overheat safeties they r round unplug unit and take wires off safeties and check for continuity thru each one also unhook dryer vent on back and see if this clears up problem if the hose being off fixes it u have a restriction or a kinked hose hope this helps

The dryer is not heating


Hello there here is a list of things to check
Testing with an ohm meter checking on a dryer....
These are the places that pass voltage to the heater elements on an electric dryer. In order to check a dryer for no heat, here is a list of places to check. Remember to always unplug the appliance before starting testing with an ohm meter. Always remove wires from the part you are testing with an ohm meter ( write down what goes where first before removing any wires ).
Meter testing and usage tips.
1. Power supply-check power supply at terminal block where cord enters the dryer. Should read 240V. If you read 240V here, tested with a volt meter, unplug dryer and test components with ohm meter.
2. Thermostats-Cycle and safety thermostats-read them with an ohm meter. Should show continuity . How common thermostats work.
3.Timer-The timer has a set of contacts that pass voltage to the heaters. If you can not determine by wiring picture what they are, check across the two terminals with the largest wires on them. The heater wires are almost twice as large as the others. You should read continuity with timer in heat mode.
4. Thermal fuses-In recent years the makers of dryers are using thermal fuses to let you know something is wrong with your dryer. They are generally non resetting and have to be replaced. The thermal fuses are located on the heater element housing and should read continuity if read with an ohm meter. Most blown thermal fuses are the result of vent/air flow problems or a grounded heating element.
5. Selector Switches-Read the wiring picture and determine which switch is closed. You should read continuity across closed switches.
6. Safety Switch on Motor-There is a safety switch on motor to insure that heaters can not come on unless motor is running. It is normally open when the motor is idle/not running, and closes when motor runs. In order to check with an ohm meter, remove the two large wires on motor switch and make them electrically safe. Tape them. Plug the dryer in and start motor. Check continuity across the terminals on the motor switch you removed the heavy wires from. If it is ok you should read continuity. Remember that the smaller wires in a dryer carry the 120V and the large wires carry 240V. There is no voltage on these two terminals with wires removed. It is ok to test with ohm meter.
7. Heat elements-Test heater element with an ohm meter. You will read continuity across a good element ( 8-12 ohms is an average element ).
But darn it, I don't have a Ohm Meter....
To check the thermal fuse - You can bypass the thermal fuse (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only. To check the thermal cut-out - You can bypass the thermal cut-out (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only.
To check the thermostats for continuity - - You can bypass the thermostat (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only.
To check the Element: Try removing element and physically looking at the element wire for a break in the wire.

Heating is not hot


Either the wires to the heating element have burned out, the heating element is shot, or the temperature sensor is shot. Unplug the dryer and check the heating element for continuity, check for burned wires between the relay and the coils, and check for continuity across the cold temperature sensor. Replace any defective parts.

My dryer does not get hot enough to dry the clothes.It takes about 80 minutes to dry on high heat.


If this is an electric dryer, it would appear that you have a broken dryer element, which would account for the extended drying time.

You can access the elements from the back of the dryer by removing the rear panel. Be sure to unplug the dryer first, to avoid getting an electric shock. You will need a multi-meter to check the continuity of the two (2) dryer elements. Just put the meter into the Ohms setting and check across the two element contact points to see if you have continuity. If you find that one of them isn't giving you a zero "0" reading, that is the bad one.

The reason the dryer is taking longer to dry, is because without both elements, the dryer cannot get hot enough to dry the clothes within the normal time, as only one element is having to provide all the heat in an attempt to dry the clothes.

You should replace the element as soon as possible, as having only one heating element working will cause that remaining element to fail sooner as well, since it will be staying one for a much longer time than normal.

Kenmore Electric Dryer will not Heat


Define checked everything. Usually when your dryer is not heating but blowing air its one of three things...
1. Thermal fuse in dryer
2. Thermistor in the dryer
3. Heating element in dryer

You need a signal meter with continuity check to accurately test all three componets. Normally the fuse and thermistor are in a set and cost less than 25 bucks. They are easy to replace if you are good with taking things apart. If the element is bad then you need to make sure your lint trap and exhaust hose are clean and kept clean. That is the main cause of the element burning up when it gets lint collected inside the dryer cavity.

In a pinch if the element is bad you can simply find where the metal has broken and try bending the rod so that it touches. The element has to be one solid piece so if there is breaks try and connect them back together until a new one can be purchased.

Please unplug the dryer before doing anything mentioned above.

A - Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.

My GE electric dryer's heating element will stay on when the dryer shuts itself off after running through a cycle. Even if the dryer is in the "off" position, the dryer will become hot to the...


It sounds as if your heating element may have broken in one area and fallen against the element shround and grounded itself out. This will cause the element to bypass the safety circuitry and continue to heat, but at a lower wattage. You were very diligent in unplugging the dryer.
You will have to replace the heating element. Do not attempt to repair the element as this will only cause a hot spot and will burn in two again.
