Question about Garmin nuvi 750 GPS Receiver
I keep it plugged into my computer via the USB cable when not in use. when I take it out, it says low battery immediately and shuts off. to program an address, I have to plug it into the car and program there.
A new battery can be purchased and installed inexpensively. I found a video.

When you have the GPS not in use "kill" the battery. Do not plug it in to anything just leave it on and let the battery die. When its dead, then plug it in the what ever you use to charge it. Make sure its off when it charging. If it turns on as soon as you plug it in, turn it off. Now just let it sit and charge completly. All you have to do is touch the screen and it will say its still charging or fully chaged. After that you'll be good to go. Just remember to "kill" it and charge it 100% on off once a month.
What would cause this is with all thing that need to be charged like GPS, cell phones, RC Car. When you get it the battery still has some juice in it. I know its hard not to use it and charge it up right away. But you need to first "kill" the battery, and let it charge when turned off 100%. This will keep your battey and charge lasting you a long time.

Sorry drod but you are wrong. The are lithium ion batteries, not nickel cadmium. the scenerio you are speaking of in need of a full drain and charge is called memory, and does not exist in lithium batteries.

I purchased a new battery and replaced it myself using video instructions and tools from NewPower99.com. Was very satisfied with the result.

1) Disconnecting the nuvi from the charging cable.
2) Press and hold the battery meter icon for 8 seconds. This puts the nuvi into "system test" mode.
3) Plug in the power cable.
4) Click "Exit." The nuvi should now reboot, but remain in GPS mode!
