Did you try to press ctrl+S for set up then go to the boot menu change the start up drive to you C drive if it wont boot you can go into the setup and boot from your cd rom then follow the instructions you can repair your operating system from the cd rom when the computer asks you witch partition you would like to install the operating system on then you just choose the primary partition and when the computer ask you would u like to format the partion using NTFS do not choose this option choose the keep current file system intacted make no changes this sould get your machine to start up but you will loose most of you programmes and you wil not loose any documents.

Hi Boru,

This happens when you might have tried to use a corrupted CD or a file has been deleted or corrupted.

Follow the below steps :-

1. Restart the Desktop.

If problem still remain,

2. Use system restore. Usually this function depends on the Operating system. Check if you have this function and you can use this to restore your system.

IF NOT,

The only solution "Format the PC".

Thanks for using Fixya.

I am Having problem restoring my dell 2400

Well you may have a bad mother board or IDE port to which the HDD is connected. If the CD is connected to the same IDE channel as the HDD, move it to IDE1 which is the second IDE channel. If it then recognizes your CD, IDE0 is bad and you need to replace your board. Let me know how things are connected inside the computer.

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.

My cd rom drive is missing from my computer

HI SIR,
Its easy to solve this..

how to solve:
  • Make sure your CD ROM drive is properly connected to your computer.
  • Double click on your My Computer icon and click on "View system information" under the System Tasks area at the top left hand corner of the window.
  • Next, choose the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.
  • look through the list for the DVD/CD ROM drives and click on the little plus sign ( + ) to expand it.
If one does, it means that your CD ROM device is connected and that it does have power. If nothing comes up, you may have some internal connection problems with the power and the ribbon cables. To check on this, shut down your computer, remove the two cables that go along with the connectors on the back of the drive and reset them firmly back in. Also, check on the ribbon cable and ensure that it is plugged tightly into the motherboard.

When you have done all of that, restart your computer and try the above directions again (in the device manager). If you still don't have anything listed, your CD ROM drive may be defective. Now, if you have tried all of this and nothing has worked yet, as I said before, it could be a software problem. So, let's go ahead and explore that.

In the device manager listing, right click on the item that appears in the list and choose Properties. Look in the Device Status area and see if there an error (could be error code 19, 31, 32, 39 or 41). If this is the case, you won't be able to use the original software for your CD ROM drive, but you could do a search online for your drive's vendor and see if you can download the latest driver software for your particular CD ROM drive. This along with a restart of your computer can solve the problem.

Another thing that may help is the system restore feature that Windows XP offers. Read about system restore here before you go any further. A system restore can place your computer back to a time when it was working properly. If you can remember the last time you know your CD ROM drive was working right, do a restore for that date. This may solve your "missing drive" issue. With any luck, it will.

thank you
vino

Dear Sir ;
Start the computer by putting the cd (RESTORE) in the cd rom.
And follow the instructions. Else format the system (you will loose the data in both the cases.)

Best Regards
Rafique

What is the original OS? If it's XP you can't install 98 over the top of it without formatting it to FAT32 first.
