Can I Increasing reception by changing network settings

Accessing the admin settings....

Is there anything that can be done to improve and personilize the handset?

I'm having trouble with signal on my sght919. I found under network settings - network mode that I could change the pre programmed setting to a variety of frequencies. My account is with tmobile and I tried 850 and received great signal however i am unable to use my phone on that frequency is this because i'm accessing another networks frequency or do I have to make other adjustments?

You can only change the band if your provider offers service on that band. So if you have bad reception on your current band try switching provider.. which offers their service on other / multiple bands.

I lose battery life fast why?

While using the HTC G1 there are different features such as watching YouTube, listening to music, programs running in the background, using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®, constantly synchronizing e-mail that can drain the battery quickly.
To improve battery life, refer to the following information: • When you don't need 3G services, set your phone to connect to a 2G network. To do this, press HOME > MENU > Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile networks, then select the Prefer 2G networks option. • When your G1 is not in use, press END CALL/POWER to switch off the screen. • Select a shorter idle time before the phone screen switches off and lower the screen brightness. To do this, press HOME > MENU > Settings > Sound & display > Brightness and Screen timeout. • Use the AC adapter to plug your G1 into an external power outlet whenever possible. • Turn Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off when you are not using it. To do this, press HOME > MENU > Settings > Wireless controls. • Turn off your phone connection to GPS satellites when not in use. To do this, press HOME > MENU, tap Settings > Security & location, then clear the GPS satellites option. • Close battery-intensive programs, such as the Camera, when you are done using them.

I can't seem to get the wifi to work other then when I'm at home when I don't need it how do I get it to work. Please be simple in your answers not too tech savvy but I love this thing already, and have to...

You have configure the wireless connection at that place where you want to get connected. Like you have done at home.
Most of the wireless connection are secure and cannot be accessed.

Thanks

Does't connect to network - search Network

Hi
It sounds like you may have a poor 3G reception in your area. Even though other O2 phones are working better they may be running on the 2G masts in your area.
Try in setting/network menu turning off 3G reception, that way the device will only look for 2G masts. Your handset will give priority to 3G masts where available and sometimes will hold onto the weakest signal making poor call quality, and or dropping connection.
Advantages to using 2G only = better standby and talk time / better reception where 3G is poor.
Disadvantages = Slower web browsing / no video calls.

WEP / WPA will only apply if you are connecting using WI FI and have nothing to do with your mobile network connection.
Hope that helps?

Sidekick 2 Wirless Problem No reception

if it is a wireless problem, the cause could be from neighbours who have wireless networks that they have set up, with alot of phones/computer networks using the same channel the seting your phone may be using could cause a conflict with other networks. I dont know this item myself, but check if you can change the channel settings for the wireless section. this could solve your problem. Best Wishes
