Typewriters have alimit to how far to the right or left that you can set margins. Once you use the alt & 6 key to bypass the current margin setting then move to the new setting then hold the alt key and touch the 7 key to keep it in the new position.

SOURCE: How do I set margins on a manual Remington Rand

Where the paper goes in, pull the flap front, squeeze the tabs together and move them to where you want them. You might also have a model with 'LMAR' & 'RMAR' keys. Just pull the carriage to where you want it while holding the key down. At the ends of the carriage, where the paper advance knobs are, there are push levers that will release the carriage to move it around. Spacing is done with the small click lever, usually on the right side. Free wheeling is done either by pushing in on the knob OR button on the left end of the carriage.
You won't find a manual for it. Typewriters rarely came with manuals, they were universally understood, or figured out.

How to reset the margins on Brother EM-530

On most electronic typewriters you change the margins by pressing the code button and holding down the press r margin or l margin on the key board. You want the carrier to be where you want the margin set. To set margins beyond the right or left margin move the carrier to the margin and press margin release to go past the margin. Then press code left or right margin.

How to set right/left margins on brother AX110 electronic typewriter?

space or backspace to the place where you want the left margin. You may have to use the margin release key to go past the present margin. When you get the carriage to where you want the margin, depress the left margin set key. Some have L mar and R mar keys, also some use the code key and another key to set.

How to reset margins on kx-r340 typewriter?

Hi;

To set or change the left margin space forward and press the left margin key. If you want to go in the other direction the press the margin release key once(do not hold it down) the use the backspace key to get to the point where you want to set the margin and press the left margin key.

The setting of the right margin works the same way.

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.

Right Margin:

Brother ml 100

when the typewriter is first switched on the typewriter will automatically set a margin 10 or 12 spaces in,depending on which pitch setting you have. To set a margin say on 20,space-bar in to 20 on the spacing scale and then press Margin Set Key. to set a margin on say, 5 first depress the Margin release key and back-space 5 spaces in and then set then margin as before. Remember that the typewriter will "forget" the settings as soon as it is switched off.
