Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Fan hums I have a motorhome with 2 ceiling AC units. One is giving me a problem. When I turn the heat/cool switch to off and put the fan switch to on from auto all the fan does is hum. I'm hoping that it only needs some oil. How would I find where it is located to get to it? It is Dometic model #620426321.

I was at the computer yesterday so it was easier to ask the question than to open things as i usually do to find out. After reading your responce I went up and after removing 4 screws there it was. I moved the squirl cage around a few times. It didn't move as free as it should, probably hadn't been used in months and we just bought the motorhome. I had my husband turn on the fan switch and it still wouldn't move so I spun the cage carefully and had him turn the fan switch again and it took off. After a few minutes I turned it off and it started the next time so I assume we need to give it a lube rather than it be a problem with a start cap or centrifical switch???? but I think we have found the problem which is the most important thing as the temp today is going to be 80. Ha and thank you. I'g going to put this site in my favs.

Outside unit will only run for a short amount of time with A/C before the fan stops turning and starts humming, squealing/screeching and the top of the outside unit gets hot.

The bearings are bad in the motor and after the fan runs enough it eventually gets hot, making the bearing screech and the fan locks up. Need to replace motor again. See if it has a warranty. The reason it gets hot is because the fan is what removes the heat from the coil and if the fan isn't running there is nothing to cool it off so to speak.

My blower on my carrier furnace unit won't turn off? a/c or heater doen't turn on.

gas furnace??? check the start capacitor, put unit in ac mode and see if fan comes on(switch fan to on at thermostat) if it does not a fan problem or capacitor problem. when in cooling mode thermostat controls fan, when in heating mode, furnace controls fan

On 1994 southwind motorhome rear ac unit clicks but fan doesnt blow but it lights up as unit is on

Check in your unit for a switch on side wall or near ceiling for selecting which AC unit gets power. Should be front, back, or both. Usually black knob to turn. Sounds like 12 volt power getting to it that tells it what to do, but also need to switch over to allow 120VAC power to actually supply power to it for running fan, compressor etc. Be sure to check all breakers in panel as well. You will probably not be able to run both at same time unless plugged in to 50amp or plugged in to 30amp, and generator running as well. I'm thinking a 94 only has 30amp power cable anyway.

I have a rooftop ac unit on my popup that was replaced two years ago. The unit works fine but I would like the fan to shut off when the compressor isn't running. Is there a switch for putting the fan...

Please describe your controls. Does it not have low fan, high fan, low cool, high cool on the dial at ceiling? If yes, low cool or high cool setting should shut it down when temperature is reached via thermostat dial.

Have A Duo-Therm air conditioner on top of my motorhome and it stoped cooling, the fan works fine. Is there a fuse in the box under the filter? It says there is on the out side. I am not sure where it...

Can you please reply with model number off bottom of upper (roof) unit. Should be able to see it when filter is removed from ceiling assy. Please include model of thermostat if possible. You say fan works, but when turned to cool, no compressor kicking in? Try shutting unit off, and turn off breaker at panel as well, give it a few minutes and retry and see if anything changes and let me know.

Unit will run if the thermostat is switch on ON, but if left on AUTO unit will hum and won't run.

For most Thermostats on and auto is for the fan switch function. There s usually another button for heat off cool. When you turn a\c or heat on , the fan switch should be on auto.

One day my RV Coleman ac just quit running on low cool but every other setting works fine. Any ideas?

Is your Air Conditioner run with a wall mounted thermostat or the ceiling pack controls? If it is the ceiling pack controls, then your selector switch has gone bad and needs to be replaced. This is located in the ceiling pack itself and is relatively easy to do. You can easily test it with an Ohmmeter, going through these steps:

To check the selector switch, remove wires from the terminals
and rotate the switch to the proper position and read
continuity as follows:
Terminals Switch Position
L-1-3 Lo Heat
L-1 Lo Fan
L-2 Hi Fan
L-1-4 Lo Cool
L-2-4 Hi Cool
* If you do not wish to remove the wires from each terminal,
disconnect the 9 pin plug from the a/c unit.

Hope this helps,

Jeff
