Question about Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

On/off switch won't turn machine off

I have a DC07 that runs great except that the on/off switch doesn't work. Unplugging from the wall just to turn the machine off every time is getting old. I'm thinking that the switch must be "bad"? Now what?

Periodically my Dyson DC07 stops operating, and then will resume operating after about a 10 minute wait period. Is there a thermal switch or "cutout" if the motor is overheating?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC07 is equipped with a thermostat which shuts the machine down for protection if it starts to overheat. This will often be due to a blockage, and the pre-filter may also be overdue for a wash.

The machine will reset automatically after it's been allowed to cool down, but to prevent this from happening again there are a few simple check you can try: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc07/dc07-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-won-t-switch-on-or-cuts-out/my-machine-cut-out-whilst-i-was-using-it/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

We recommend washing the filter at least once every 3-6 months, using cold water without detergent. Allow the filter to dry completely before replacing it - this may take at least 12 hours.

Removing any blockages and washing the filter thoroughly should resolve the issue. However, if your machine continues to shut off after you've tried both of these steps please get in touch with us directly so we can talk you through some additional troubleshooting checks. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Brush wont turn belt not broken no sure how to get to shaft to see if it is turning

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. If the brushbar in your cleaner doesn't seem to be rotating, please check you have the brush control set to 'Carpets', as it won't rotate when set to 'Hard floors', or if the cleaner is standing in the upright position.

If the brush control is set correctly and the brushbar still won't turn, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. If the cleaner won't stand upright, it may be because the valve carriage has become misaligned. This is easy to correct - please follow the steps shown in our support video linked below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1376&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

By realigning the valve carriage, you should be able to resolve you issue. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. When pressing the ON button, the machine will not stay on. It will only if I hold the red on botton down.

Most likely the ratchet mechanism on the switch is faulty.

Switches are available if you search on eBay for a few pounds, and if you've reasonable DIY skills and tools, it's fairly easy to do.

Have a look at http://www.dysonmedic.com/DC07%20Folder/DC07%20Motor%20change.htmlwhich has some great info.
