Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Garage door opener motor doesn't work.

The original problem was my garage door opener motor would operate but the garage door wouldn't go up or down. I removed the metal housing cover and found that the gear and sprocket assembly was worn flat. I replaced the gear and sprocket assembly. I have a craftsman 1/2 hp chain driven garage door opener - model #139.53674SRT. After replacement and installing the housing in its original position I pressed the wall mounted switch to check to make sure the motor was functioning properly. Now, the motor doesn't work at all and the yellow SRT light flashes 2 times. What does it mean when the SRT light flashes 2 times?

Thank you,

I have almost the same problem...not sure the model...for about a week, the door would go up or down about quarter way and you had to keep pressing remote until it finally went either direction....now motor just makes a little buzz noise, but no movement....yellow light flashes two times periodically.

This opener is about 16 years old....does it need a new one?

2 flashes is a safety eye issue, but you problen is most likely that the chain is not sync with the limit setting. Take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assemble and rotate center limit srew until it is in the same position as the trolley.

How to open the door if no electricity

Almost all garage door openers have a switch mechanism that will allow you to open the door manually. It is usually a pull cord on the motor or track. Pulling it down usually deactivates automatic mode. Just pull it up into position when the electricity comes back on.

It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.

I had to use the emergency cable to open garage door when power was out, how can i reconnect cable now? It is a craftsman 1/2 horsepower door opener, double door for a double garage door.

This usually works:
  1. Close the garage door from the inside, you should be in the garage ;-)
  2. Just pull the cable back, towards the motor until the latch clicks in place. You may need a ladder, and it may not make much of a click, but you can usually do this from the ground.
  3. Now operate the motor and you'll see the shuttle travel towards the latch and connect with a click.
  4. Open the door!

You don't need the original switch positions. Make sure the row of switches in the motor unit are set exactly the way the remote is. The switches are normally marked + 0 -. Move all of them to the plus sign and try.

If the wall button will operate the door up but none of the devices do then look at the wall button. Find the lock button and push it for 2 seconds and then try the remotes again. This is your vacation lock. You can get a manual at chamberlain.com. Now if the door does not open or close with the remotes you can reprogram them. Press the colored learn button on the motor head and then press the button on the remote. Repeat for each remote. If they fail to program you will need a new logic board. Thanks BB

Garage door opens about one foot and remains there.

Check the door springs. You could have a broken spring. Also remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It is possibly stripped. This is a good time to release the door from the opener and operate it by hand to see just how heavy it has become.
