Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

My Bernina 1530 mysteriously starts to sew in reverse, won't sew the correct stitch, and generally acts up. Help

I bought this machine used. It seemed to work at the sellers house. I got it to work ok this morning, but now in the evening it is acting up like crazy. I turn if off/on and that doesn't help. It sometimes will sew the correct stitch then goes off and sews something else. It starts to go in reverse without me touching anything. Help.

It sounds like the machine needs to be serviced.

SOURCE: reverse sewing button stuck HELP!!

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.

SOURCE: Bernina 1630 problem

Your feed dogs sound like they are getting stuck, chec whether they are on the down position, and also make sure that you have cleaned any lint that builds up in the bobbin area, if all fails it will have to go into the technician,

SOURCE: The Reverse stitch button

The feed mechanism needs to be oiled. Take off the bottom cover and look for any place where two parts move against each other. Some binds can be very difficult to remove. Try spraying everything with a light weight oil (I like Tri-Flow) and let them soak over night. Then manually try to move the feed dogs with your hand. Hopefully it will break loose.
Good luck!

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

I cant get my stitch Width Zig zag knob to turn om my bernina record 930. Any one have this problem?

Most likely because your machine has not been serviced (oiled & cleaned) in a long time and the old oil has turned to glue and seized. This is probably the most common problem with mechanical sewing machines. A mechanical sewing machine should be regularly maintained..ie every 40 hours of sewing use or at least every six months when not in use. You may want to take it to a Bernina service technician. Ask for a bottle of Bernina oil for CB hook machines and ask if they will show you how to oil it.

Bernina 1230 stitch problems

Cleaning and oiling "may" help, however, with the machine changing stitches on its own, sounds like it could be a computerized part. I've read somewhere that sometimes the board just needs a connection re-soldered, but figuring it out and then fixing it could be difficult. Some people who are "computer-handy" can replace the boards themselves if they can determine which board is at fault.

Why won't my Bernina Activa 140 sew the blind hem stitch?

Are you absolutley sure you're not getting a problem with stitch formation on, for example, wide zig-zag. Check again, using a different colour top and bottom and make sure that the stitch is being formed properly with only the top colour on top and bottom colour on the bottom. It sounds as though the bottom loop is not being picked-up by the hook properly. Make sure you've thoroughly cleaned-out any fluff under the stitch-plate and remove the hook/shuttle and give the hook race a good clean and give it a single drop of oil, even if you've got the lightweight part-plastic hook/shuttle fitted.

Needle won't stay in left position when using zip foot - bernina 1530

Is it possible you're using a later foot with the sensor lenses on it ... your machine has the optical sensor for the automatic buttonhole foot and I'm wondering if you're getting it confused by using a foot that is not designed to go with that machine ?

Need to change stitch density

Hi Debbie,
I found the command for this change in the Features menu called "Balance" and it has a "b" symbol. In the ARtista 185 instruction manual this appears on page 30 so probably around there in your manual too.
Manual says
"Balance - touch symbol to open balance screen, correct forwards and reverse stitches, correct sideways motion stitches.
If you dont' have a manual you might want to download the 185 from the Bernina website, the link is http://bernina-globalsite.webtuning-cdn.ch/webautor-data/887/0308665104_0401_a185_EN.pdf

Hope this helps you to resolve your issue.

Is there a button on this 807 machine bernina which you can press for it to stitch backwards like on the singer machine 507 as its saves time on tiring ends up at the beginning and end of sewing thank...

The stitch length control is moved upwards, beyond the 'zero' position to make it sew backwards. To demonstrate, with the machine off, adjust the stitch length to '2' using the knob on the stitch-length lever. Now push the lever upwards until it stops - it will go past the zero position and this is now in reverse mode.

My bernina patchwork 140 will not sew in reverse when I press the reverse button has the button gone bad the button hole won't sew ithe back stitch either?

Some machines will not do any of their automatic forwards and backwards movement type stitches in reverse, are you trying to reverse in straight stitch or a more complex stitch.

The Activa is a late model quality machine, do you have a Bernina dealer locally you could ring up and ask or take it to?
