Satellite connection to WAn port of the router.
the 2 computers can be connceted to any of the 4LAN port.
you can use the router just the way it is.

Absolutely. The router will have an uplink port. It will indicate on the back. Hook the modem from sat to the uplink and the other 2 computers to the other ports. make sure the computers are on DHCP (they should be defaulted to it) and they should auto connect

How do i connect two computers so they both have the same ip address i have a linksys 5-port workgroup switch will that work ? also i had hooked it up but only one of my computers had internet

They cannot have the same IP address due to the mechanics of DHCP. Buying a cheap 50$ router (not switch) will fix your problem as your internet service provider will see that device as a single unit that it will assign an IP and then the router will give out internal ip addresses so that they can get online. The switch does not have this functionality.

I have my internet through my cable company and i want two com hooked up but are not going to have them online at the same time so can i use the 10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w by using the line coming out of...

Hello Friend
You could definately use Network Switch-10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w to Connect to Network Router or Modem using Uplink Port at back Panel of 10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w Switch.
Simply Connect Modem cable to Uplink Port of Switch and connect computers to other 2 ports of switch. Allow computers to get Automatic ip addresses..if computers still not getting ip addresses auto--contact cable company and config your cable modem to use NAT or enable NAT--

Linksys 5-port switch

When connecting a switch/router to another switch a specially-wired crossover ethernet cable is necessary, unless both units are designed to automatically determine whether they need to operate in crossover or "uplink" mode. This is more than likely the problem you are encountering.

Lost connection between switch and hub - LED flashes every 5 secs

You say you have the same problem when you connect the cable directly from router to laptop, so it apparently is not a hub problem. That leaves the router and the cable. You're fortunate in having a working system on the other port. Why not try swapping pieces to see which is the failed piece? For example, what if you swap the ports for the cables? If it's a router problem, then the "bad" cable should work when in the other port. What if you swap cables? That would reveal a bad cable. Finally, swapping computers would show a computer configuration problem, such as the connection not being set to automatic.

I have a cable modem. from the cable modem I go to a 5 port hub

That is because most cabel internet providers only gives you one public IP. Please go to a Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Walmart, or Targer, and ask for a LinkSys Router. The router will do NAT (Network Address Translation) that will allow more than one PC share the single public IP. This will solve your problem and will cost an estimated $30.00. The router is simple to hook up, just plug the cabel from your modem into the Internet/WAN port on the router. And the two computers into any of the other ports. Be sure to unplug both cable modem and router then plug up the cable modem first, once the ready light is on, plug up the router.
