Question about HP Officejet J5780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP Officejet J5780 : copy's and scan's result : black page

I have a printer all in one : HP Officejet J5780.
Now I haven't any more the message : align cartridge... but
when I try to print or to scan , I have a bad result :
the page copied is black or the scan result is black.

Who can help me ?

    I tried to copy a document, and it too came up black. So, I tried scanning it, it also came out black. I turned off the unit, unplugged for 1 minute, plugged in again, and still get the same results. I checked the alignment, all's good. This unit is just over 1 year old.

Try to disconnect the power cable from the back of the unit and reconnect it after few secs. The alingment will start itself. Complete the alingment once.

HP Officejet J5780: Cannot scan, copy, or fax from my computer.


Kindly install the scanner software for printer the driver software cd just re install it will install the scanner software and make sure in device manger there is not other usb device listed if it is there just remove it. And refresh it in will automatically install the driver.

HP OfficeJet J5780 Vertical Black Line Prints when copying or scaning only. Cleaned rollers and changed black ink cartrigde. Still problem.


Have you tried cleaning the document feeders Scan Glass? (small glass under doc feeder ~ 1" by 9") Most times there is dirt spot on this glass, causing a shadow on scans and copies.
Try copying from the large glass by lifting doc feeder / platen cover and manually placing original. If no line copying or scanning manually from large glass, then small scan glass is deffenitely the culprit. Hope this helps.

How do I scan using the HP all in one j5780?


have you installed the printer software?if you have installed the printer software then try scanning using the printer.there should be a message there that would say that it is scanning or not. if theres an error message leave a message again

How do you scan to a file?


Make sure you have the HP Director Software installed. Get it here.

Then follow the instructions here.
It appears there is no button to sacn to pc, that is part of the software.

Once try to make a scan and if we are getting line even while scanning. Then perform the steps given in the below webpage.

Directly go to step three and then try to make a copy.

If the issue still persists then power cycle the all-in-one.

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the product.
  4. Turn the product on.
  5. Make a color copy by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the control panel.
Now try to make a copy and check for the result. If the issue still persists then reset the all-in-one.

  1. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.
  3. Make a color copy of any document by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the control panel.

Printer problem


Try to print a self-test page or make a copy from the all-in-one, if the results are same, then check the ink levels in the HP Solution center and replace the necessary cartridge .
