Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook

1 Answer

I can't get the computer to find a cd or dvd, it keeps saying please insert disc - but its already in there.

HELP!! It worked this morning, and now it won't work. I have tried all sorts of DVD's and CD's and they all have the same problem. The computer doesnt seem to register them. I can hear it making a noise like its processing when I first insert the disc, and the mouse comes up with a small CD icon next to it, but then nothing further happens. It would normally open up a box asking what I want to do next. I cant even open them via My computer.

Re: I can't get the computer to find a cd or dvd, it...

Your driver(s) may be corrupt. Try this. RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER from your desktop, select PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, select the HARDWARE tab, click on the DEVICE MANAGER button, click on the (+) by the DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES line, RIGHT click the drive that isn't working, (this part may sound scary) select the UNINSTALL option, click OK in the warning box, then restart your computer. On restart, WIndows will automatically detect the deleted DVD/CD-ROM drive and will install the appropriate non-corrupt driver(s). This should solve your problem. If not the drive may be defective. Hope this helps!

Dvd keeps saying insert a disc

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard. If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it Hope this helps.

Hi samit,

Here's what you can do to resolve your problem:

Option 1. You can remove the filter of your ODD:
Here's how: ODD Filter Removal

Option 2. Restore your computer back to factory state by the use of OKR.
How: Shut down your computer.
Press and hold the inverted arrow like key besides your power button.
Select ONE KEY RECOVERY -> Restore from Initial Back up then hit start
Wait for it to complete then setup your computer again and check the ODD capabilities.

Option 2. For futher troubleshooting on your Lenovo G560, you can contact the consumer support hotline for Lenovo at 877-453-6686 - Option 2,1 - If you are within warranty you should have the option to send it to their service center free of charge.

System Repair? Help?

Insert the disc in the tray. Restart the computer. The computer will not boot in the normal mode but will boot with the repair disc. Now follows he instructions to complete the repair or complete pc restore. It is easy to understand.
If you restart the computer after inserting the disc 1 in the tray and the computer does not boot with the disc. then restart again and keep tapping F9 key and it will ask you to boot from cd/dvd rom so select it and press enter and it will boot with the cd. It might ask you to press any key to boot from cd. You may press any key on the keyboard at the very moment you see the message.

My acer 4620z isnt readivn the cd/dvd drive

take a slightly damp q-tip and wipe down the laser in your drive. after this then try several dvd's and cd's and see if the drive will play them.

If after this it doesn't then the drive is bad and will need to be replaced cause the laser is bad and can't read discs properly.

When i try to copy dvd it keeps telling me to insert blank disc even though one is in there i can burn cds but not dvd it tells me to put in writeable disk and ive put in dvdr-w and dvd-r and still it...

Go to the device manager to insure your optical drive is in fact a DVD/RW. You should also be able to tell by looking at the front of the drive and see what it says. If it says CD Writable or DVD Rom, you cannot do it. Kind of sounds like you have a CD/RW-DVD Rom combination drive, which does not allow the burning of DVD's.

Let me know, OK.

Acer Aspire not booting

I'm inclined to believe something is going on with the DVD drive, perhaps a I/O cable or driver issue, it just seems like what you said about the drive sounding like it's trying to read is a clue, what I would try if you have not already ,is since you said you can get to get to the Bios usually the default for boot sequence is CD/DVD drive first unless you change it, see if you can change the boot sequence from DVD drive first to HDD first and see if you can bypass it, then it might just boot, if that works then that was the cause,I see no other reason why the Drive should be trying to read other than the boot sequence. if not then it might be more complicated and could be a hardware issue somewhere,

Hoep this helps.

ACER laptop, CD/DVD not working

Hi there

Thanks for posting your problem on fixya

It means your CD/DVD player is not attached properly. Please restart you laptop and go to bios

To go into Bios -- Press del key as soon as the pc restarts.

You would see a black screen as soon as you del key. Please check on boot priority and check there if you can see your CD/DVD there it means you CD/DVD player installed properly.

Please take you laptop to some hardware shop and if its in warranty period then go to service center
