When you get a "4 inch bar with lines in it half way down" it is always a buffer board, if it starts from bottom it is lower buffer, otherwise upper buffer (note: Y Sus and Low/high Y buffer are differnet boards.

In UK minimum charge for replacement is 50 pounds, usual charge for testing boards and replacing is 80 pounds labour plus board price that is 50/60 pounds.

Here is an example of low buf for a similar model.

You need to send it to a repair shop and have it fixed...it could be any number of things wrong with it that needs fixed and it would be safer and wiser to send it in for repair

You can try first to zoom the screen by pressing the zoom button option as it can be not set on proper required mode.this can also be the cause of this.either it can be faulty component can cause you near to $100 for getting it repaired.as it has to be checked with a meter on which board the faulty component located.and u can get the required parts at  www.radioshack.com

What connection are you using when you get this bar? Have you tried another connection to see if you still get the bar? For example, if you're using the PJs component video connection, try using the HDMI port or vice-versa.
push the menu button on the box and the service menu will come up. use the curser buttons to select HDMI settings. change the color type form 4:4:4 to RGB then push menu, then turn the set back on.

check your composite video cable (Red, Blue, Green) and make sure both ends are securley inserted.
remove and reattach the cables again.

Screen controls need adjustment or your vertical caps or vertical IC could be bad.....

the screen can be adjusted by removing that back of the tv and finding the knobs, otherwise you will have to have an electroics tech fix

The bar is there because that section of the
grid is either not receiving information from the processor or is
unable to display that data it's receiving.

If you want to get it fixed it will likely cost $100-200 or so. TV
repair rates have actually come down a bit lately, since there is so
much push to just junk old TVs and buy new TVs with digital tuners.
Some repair shops have lowered their rates to try to make "repair and
    keep" a more attractive option.

Do not operate the set with the picture like that. If left for too long
it will burn into the screen, and then after repair the screen will
forever have a dark region where that bar used to be.

If you like to and feel comfortable doing so, you can remove the back of the tv and try adjusting the v-hold and other picture adjusting screws. It is worth a try, but it if this doesn't correct the problem, then you will have to replace the vertical caps or veritical IC

Hi there i have a 50 inch plasma tv model ps-50q96hdx/xeu which seems to have a mind of it's own when i switch it on. sometimes it comes on, sometimes it won't! when it does turn on it has been found

Hello,

You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits.

The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad. This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this IC is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off.

This is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.

You know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.
You still need to check for leakages...

Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Good luck.

Have 50 inch samsung plasma tv.have sound but no picture.

If the sound is still going and you can change the channels then the problem is most certainly the ysus or zsus board.
