This video covers the installation and adjustment of the Eccentric Hub Assembly for the Stairmaster 4400PT/CL and 4600PT/CL Steppers.
The video begins with the Eccentric Hub Assembly removed from the unit. If you need help removing the Eccentric Hub Assembly from your stepper, please see our video about the Eccentric Hub Assembly Removal.
Tools Needed: Socket Wrench, 7/16" Socket, Adjustable Wrench or 7/16" Wrench
  • Begin by placing your HTD toothed belt around its pulleys. This allows you to set the proper belt tension before mounting the Eccentric Hub Assembly to the frame. The "egg" shape of the Eccentric Hub allows for adjustment of the belt tension. Rotate the hub counter clockwise to tension the belt. Proper belt tension allows about ¼" of play.
  • Line up the 4 bolts through the Eccentric Hub Assembly and the frame. Be sure to place the bolts facing the same direction as noted from removal of the old Eccentric Hub Assembly.
  • Once all the bolts are aligned, retighten them to the frame using the socket wrench with socket on one side and the other wrench on the opposite side.
  • Reinstall the poly-v alternator belt.
  • The Eccentric Hub Assembly installation and adjustment is now complete.

Drive Chain Replacement on Stairmaster 4000PT Stepper

Replacing the Drive Chain on Stairmaster 4000PT
    1. Remove the bottom cover.
  • Remove the master link from the drive chain.
  • Remove the drive chain from the sprockets.
  • Reinstall the drive chain, ensuring the master link is properly installed.
  • Check the drive chain tension. There should be a total of 1" to 1-1/2" (2.5 to 4.0 cm) of play, up and down, at the slackest point in the chain. If the drive chain tension needs adjustment, refer to the "Drive Hub Assembly" section.
WARNING: If the drive chain is too tight, the drive train will wear excessively, shortening the life of the drive hub assembly. If the chain is too loose, the machine will be noisy and will operate at less than peak efficiency.
  • Lubricate the chain with 30W motor oil and wipe off the excess.
  • Reinstall the covers.

Drive Hub Assembly Replacement for Stairmaster 4000PT Stepper

Stairmaster Stepper Drive Hub Assembly Replacement
  1. Remove the side covers.
  2. Remove the step chain retainers.
  3. Supposrt the pedal arm. Unhook the pedal arm return spring from the spring hanger. Lift the step chain up and off the clutch sprocket and lower the pedal arm to the floor. Repeat on the other side.
  4. Remove the snap ring from the left end of the drive shaft. WARNING: To reduce the risk of eye injury, wear eye protection when removing snap rings.
  5. Remove the drive chain.
  6. Remove the sprocket and other small parts from the left side of the hub assembly.
  7. Slide the drive shaft to the right, out of the hub assembly. If you remove the right-hand clutch sprocket form the drive shaft, do not confuse it with the left-hand clutch sprocket.
  8. Loosen and remove the two remaining bolts and nuts that hold the hub assembly to the frame. Remove the hub assembly.
  9. Inspect the drive shaft, bushings, thrust washers, and clutch sprockets for excessive wear or pitting. Replace any worn components.
  10. To reinstall the hub assembly, carefull reverse the disassembly procedures. Be sure that the right- and left-hand clutch sprockets are positioned correctly; the wide shoulder of the sprocket should be facing away from the hub on both sides.
  11. Chain Tension. The drive shaft is mounted in an eccentric hub. Rotate the hub so the marked hole is in the 12 o'clock posistion, lining up four holes in th hub with the four holes in the frame. Use this hub position when reinstalling the drive chain since the distance between the drive and the transmission shafts is at a minimum. The hub is in the proper position when the drive chain has a total of 1" to 1-1/2" of play, up and down, at the slackest point in the chain. If it is necessary to increase the tension or tighten the chain, rotate the hub counter clockwise until the chain has proper tension.
  12. Reinstall the covers.

My battery needs replaced. Where does the new battery go? Can I get an A/C power source instead? I go to LifeTime Fitness and all of their Satirmasters are plugged into an outlet on the floors. Seems like...

yes you can get an adapter to plug it in . go online to sportsmith fitness products they can also provide you with a new battery as well
the battery is located on the right side of the machine when your are standing in it, push both pedals down with your knees and remove the small cover in front of you carefully .release the pedals , then remove the right side cover (remove the push pins on front and bottom of cover ) it will be a little tricky without removing all the covers but be gentle, do not force it too much. you will see the battery to the upper left. as you will see it is easy to remove and replace
