Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

1 Answer

Motherboard has died 3 times in 13 months

I bought my HP Pavillion dv9000 in Januray 2007. Worked fine for a little less than a year. Then one day it just stopped working. Wouldn't turn on. Only light that would illuminate was by the AC plug. Called HP and they had me do all kind of things and then finally they determined that my motherboard was not working. I sent it in for repair and it was under warranty. Got it back and it worked fine for 3 months then broke again. They wanted me to pay for this repair, but I refused and they finally paid for it. The motherboard has died again. So I have to send it back and have everything replaced again. This is SUCH AN INCONVENIENCE I wish they would just give me another computer entirely! Or refund my money. I seriously cannot have a laptop that DIES every few months! This is so ridiculous. Besides joining the class action lawsuit, is there anything else I can do? I am beyond frustrated.

Thank you for your advice. What exactly is the consumers' act you reference? I want to be equipped with as much information as possible when I call to contest this mess yet again. Thanks so much.

hp Pavillion dv9000 Wouldn't turn on. I have been researching this problem and it has happened to thousands of people. Any computer that has a nvidia graphics card integrated into the motherboard might as well throw their computer in the garbage. I have tried many times with "customer support", but i always get the run around. hp*******

Hi there
Sounds like a generic problem you are having, get HP to change it for a different model if they will as you are entitled to under the consumers act.

Good luck with them

Basically its law that if your not happy with your product during the time its spent under warranty, and the same problem has occurred with no progress, the supplier is obliged to to either refund or replace the product with a unit of the same price or more.
Get all of your documentation ready just in case you need it.

    Good luck

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

Try booting your computer in safe mode... when your machine starts press F8 and go to Windows. Run for a couple of hours and see if this problem happens.

If you have system restore running, restore back to a point when you didnt have the problem

dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 recall
I have an out of warranty dv9000 and haven't had wireless for months. I just discovered HP issued a recall for the wireless and other problems with several different Pavilion and Presario models. For the wireless problem with the dv9000 they are replacing the motherboard on all notebooks in or out of warranty. I was wondering if anyone has had the repair done under the recall and how it turned out? I'm also wondering if HP is still cosmetically trashing notebooks when they are sent in for repair?
Here is the link for the recall:

HP Pavillion DV93100 - does NOT power up

Seems that you have one of the RECALLED laptops from HP the folks at BB should have mentioned that before they charged you for a temporary if not futile fix, as the mainboard overheats to the point of inevitable FAILURE!
(although HP will not really admit culpability either)

Do a Google search on HP dv9000 series recall, thousand of others also share your plight.

HP Pavilion dv9000 dies out.

When you say the power dies, is the battery drained or does it simply power off? If it powers off, try blowing out your fans with canned air while the system is off. Also update your video card drivers.
