SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. hi there. try to check if your surround speakers are on the surround terminal. do not put them on the surround back terminal because this is only allotted for the 7.1 speakers. hope this helps.. ^_^

SOURCE: 2 month old ONKYO TX-SR706 speaker circuit problem

Make sure none of your speaker wires are touching. I had this problem. I re connected the wires. If a wire is touching the case it'll short out. It has a built in cut out.

I still have a crackling speaker on one channel but it doesn't cut out anymore.

I have an Onkyo AV receiver model TX-NR509 and the internet radio stopped working. I have a good internet connection. How do I fix this?

I see on Onkyo's website that the iMerge service was discontinued in late 2008, Stating that:
"the selection of Internet Radio stations available through Net-Tune will decrease and eventually will cease."
You may want get on the Onkyo website and see what services are available for that receiver.

7.1 would have Surround Back L and R.

6.1 would have just one back there (SB). It defaults to the Left output on the Pre-Outs if you ever go that route.

This being a 6.1 receiver it does not support two SB channels BUT you can configure those amp channels for a separate Zone supporting 2 speakers. Confused?

The manual shows a single SB speaker connected to the left side on Page 27. THAT would be consistent with a 6.1 configuration.

Individual speaker leads are not fused. It's possible the switch is defective. Does it light the speaker B indicator? If not, I'd suspect the switch.

If it DOES light the Speaker B indicator maybe there's an open circuit going to the Speaker B terminals. Or its common ground for that speaker pair alone is open.
