Printer not working (Lexmark 1200 Series All-In-One)

I just installed new cartriges and it doesn't print any more. I made sure it was the right cartrige number, and all the connections are good. Originaly when I changed a cartrige, the PC use to ask me if it was new or not. In the past few weeks it didn't ask me. I reinstalled the old cartriges but it still doesn't work. There is power on the printer, and when I ask for a print, I can ear the printer gets mooving but the sheet doesn't come down and nothing hapens. If I press the left white button the sheet comes down half way but it doesn't print. If I press again the left white button the sheet comes all the way out. Please help me. Robert

It's only one year old, and according to a on line technician, it's not defective. Thanks

Lexmark uses a chip in the tanks that can actually read the viscosity of the ink and know if its been refilled or not. When you put a recharged tank or return a tank you previously used, it thinks you are using a refilled tank.

This is even as in your case you just returned the old cartridge back into the printer.

When this happens the printer is programmed to shut down itself.

I haven't had the chance to work on one of these yet, but because Lexmark has been taken to Court over this technique and they are supposed to now sell rechargeable tanks for people who purchase and use their products but cannot buy new ink. This happens in the Pacific Islands, remote areas of the West and other outposts in the world.

Lexmark doesn not label their rechargeable tanks as such, but have an "A" after the number, such as 14A. Or they will read "High Capacity" the high capacity means you can refill it several times before the 'jets' start to wear and your printing will become less crisp.

My point is that this practice is well known not sanctioned by the courts and as the old printers in use are diposed of and replaced the newer Lexmarks won't give this problem.

The only chance you have and I don't have any personal experience, but sometimes printers have a button battery inside on a circuit board that can be removed along with the power plug and left off and unpluggged with battery removed for 15 minutes. Then reinsert the battery, reattche the power cord and start it up. You will have to change any fax settings you have had and reset the date as well.

Finding and removing an onboard battery is you only chance to reset your printer.

For what these things cost in the long run, you will be better off with an Epson. You see, we rarely ever see problems with Epson printers here. We do see Canon's all day long, a lot of HPs and plenty of Lexmarks. That's a clue as to what printers are good and which aren't

Okay, this may help, but if not, I'm sorry. First go to "start" then go to "control panel" then click on "printers and faxes". Now you should have the list of printers, or just one. Make sure your model has a black check beside it, if not you have to right-click it and select "set as default printer". While you're still there, right-click your model again and then click "resume", if it doesn't pop up then it's okay. So try it now, and nothing after that then go back to "control panel" and go to add new hardware, make sure to hook your printer up to different USB ports if it runs off of a USB. Good luck, I hope it gets fixed!

It may be time for a new printer...they sell pretty cheaply (cheaper than the cartridges) and a brand new one will last longer. a new one is about 40.00

Wont print

It could be that your cartridges needs some cleaning. Try to follow the steps below to fix the problem:
  1. Make sure your printer is connected to your computer and is turned on.
  2. From your computer, go to Start menu.
  3. Go to Programs or All Programs.
  4. Go to Lexmark 1200 Series folder.
  5. Select Lexmark Solution Center.
  6. From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them from possible clogs and dirt. After successfully printing the page, try to print your document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
If that doesn't help, you can manually wipe the cartridge nozzles with a slightly damped paper towel. Then reinsert the cartridges and try to print again.
If the problem continues, then it could be a faulty cartridge. Try to insert a different known working cartridge or better yet a brand new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Lexmark products work best with original supplies.
I hope this helps. Thanks.

Installing Lexmark 1200 series

Have you downloaded a "driver" for the printer. If not, search for "Lexmark 1200" free driver downloads. Or go to "control panel" and click on "add new hardware" and follow the onscreen instructions. Try this first and if not work, then do the search.
