Question about Gateway 510H Pentium 2.4 GHz, 256MB RAM, 40 GB HD, DVD/CD-RW, Mini Tower Computer (510HRB) PC Desktop
My computer has a black screen with a message''pxe boot file not found'' I've called the geek squad and they explain that sounds like my system is trying to boot from a network and not from the computer.
Hit F2 on boot up and go into the Bios settings, look for the boot order and change it to HDD as first boot device, hit F10 and save and exit.
The PC will restart and should boot into the hard drive.

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
Hopefully this will answer most your questions:
You will need to replace the hard drive, it is going bad or may already be bad.
If the computer will still load windows (it looks like the hard drive is bad, so it may not), you need to create a recovery DVD set. This has to be done with the computer booted to windows (since that is were the program is). Once you have created the recovery set, copy any files you created that you do not want to loose to an external source (external hard drive for example). These files are in the documents, pictures, videos, ect folders for each user account. Now you can replace the hard drive with a good hard drive. You will boot from the recovery set you created, this will reinstall all software that came with the computer when purchased. You most likely had to purchase the MS office package, and you should have an install disk for it. Another software you purchased will have to be reinstalled also. You can them copy your files from the external source back to your computer. This should put you just about back in business.
1. computer will not boot to windows and I would like my files still:
Most computer retailers offer services for sale. If the hard drive is readable, they can pull your information off of it, and back it up for you.
2. I did not or can not create the recovery set:
If you contact HP support (800-474-6836) they can sell you a recovery set (sometimes they will provide you one free).
3. I am not comfortable with any of this. Again most computer retailers offer services to repair your computer and back up your information. Keep in mind if your do not have the recovery set, they may just install windows on the computer and nothing else.
