Not all programming software supports usb. Either find software that supports usb or you can buy add on cards to your pc that will give you a serial port. Hope this helps

The easiest way to program your scanner is to download software from www.butel.nl for your scanner. You will be able to manage your scanner better and you can download frequencies for your area from www.radioreference.com .

You can download and print the factory manual for your scanner, at no cost, here:
http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC246Tom.pdf

You can also find a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area (they're not codes), and a lot of other useful scanning information, here:

Programming my bc246t

Hello Ranger66,
I had the same problem. did you set the radio to "xfer information"? if not, to do this follow these steps
1. press menu display ---menu--- and program system under
2. twist thr top right knob until "xfer information is displayed".
3. press the "E" or yes button, this will disply the baud rate.

check to see if the radio connects.
