Computer gives 1 loud continuous beep on startup

My HP Pavilion Elite m9040n computer gives 1 loud continuous beep on startup. It does not stop until it is powered off. No startup process begins. I think it is the motherboard but before I ship it off for 3 weeks I want to be sure. I cannot run any memory checks or other system checks as it never gets to a point where I can.

As you have already troubleshooted a lot ... but i want you to check by replacing power-supply (SMPS) in most of the cases such problem are created by faulty smps. No doubt it's getting on but SMPS can create such problem. So check with that if haven't check for it.

About 3 times a day the external battery pack for the computer beeps really fast. Then stops.

Most "desktop" computers do NOT have an exernal battery pack. If your does, that's OK.

The "beeps" probably occur when the AC power from the wall-outlet is interrupted (or is cut-off). The charge in the battery continues to supply power to your computer -- so, your computer does NOT crash.

HP Pavilion M9040N Elite, power lights come on, will not boot

unhook everything that is hooked to it ! Except the keyboard mouse and Display. now try it ! If that doesn't work try to start in safe mode then do a system Restore to an earlier date. there could be a number of things to cause this even a mouse, So one at a time try to remove all that you can and then go from there and one at a time hook all back up until you find it. if not there have to start inside the machine, Doing the same thing/ video, sound,cd roms/floppy/etc.hope you find it in the first round.
