I just put a new 9 cell battery, two new 2GB ram cards & a new, blank hard drive in our Dell Inspiron 1525. But the screen does not seem to work when I turn it on, or after I put in an installation...

Remove the battery, and connect the AC power. Then, try to start it.

Disconnect the AC power, and remove the "new" disk-drive.
Then, connect the AC power, and try to start it.

Disconnect the AC power. Remove the "new" RAM, and put the "old" RAM back in.
Then, connect the AC power, and try to start it.

If it does start, add the "new" disk-drive, and try again.

If it does start, add the "new" RAM, and try again.

I have a dell vostro 1500 laptop when i press power sw. the power led lits for a second then turns off again nothing else done

This normally is an indication that the AC adapter is not powering the system and the remaining residual power in the battery only powers the system momentarily. Things to try:
  1. If available, try a different AC adapter. If no known good adapter is available, then use a multimeter to see if 19 VDC is available in the DC connector. If system powers up on a different adapter, or the Adapter has no power at the DC connection, replace the adapter.
  2. Remove all drives, Memory, battery, and wireless cards, and see if the system powers on. If it does, add 1 RAM module, and see if the system boots. If it does, add other components back one at a time until you ID the failure. If system doesn't change, then replace the motherboard.

Can't go any further

If the system is still powering on then off, it is most likely a power issue.
First, remove the battery, see if the system will power on with the AC adapter alone. If no power indication at all (Which is what I expect) then there is a problem supplying power to the system. If the system turns on and runs normally without the battery, then replace the battery.
If available, try a different AC adapter (Ant Dell D-Series AC adapter will work) and see if the system powers on normally. If it does, replace the AC adapter. If you connect a known good ac adapter and the system doesn't power on, then remove the drives, the modem, wireless card and memory and see if any change. If still no change, then replace the motherboard.
If symptoms change after removing all removable items, add 1 memory module back and see if the system will POST. If it does, add items back one at a time till the bad item is identified, then replace that item.
