I just bought the Lithium - ion batteries for replacement for my 18.0 volt ni-cad battery. when I put it (ion battery) in the charger (ni-cad charger) no lights come on. what's up?

Lithium Ion batteries don't charge the same way ni-cads or ni-mh do. You need a lithium ion specific charger to charge them. (Some chargers do multiple types.)

Charged the battery and shortly after it keeps shutting its self off?

It's a lithium battery.I can tell .Have same problem sometimes. Either need to clean the contacts on the battery and drill (use Paslode tool cleaner, aereole spray) or get a new battery. Most of my battery powered tools are Ridgid, I like them and they usually hold up , but like any other brand they can be unreliable. I buy an average of 5 new batteries a year. Some last about 6 weeks , others 3 years.

I just bought a Rigid cordless drill with lithium battery. It will not do anything. I took it back to Home Depot and they changed it. I still cannot get the drill to work. I must be doing something...

Don't assume you're the problem just yet. I would simply take it back and locate some helpful, eager employee and see if THEY can get it to work. If it works for them, they can tell you what you may be doing wrong. If it doesn't work, they would likely be happy to give you one that functions. I will ask this, though. Was the battery charged fully in the first place? A lot of battery-op products don't come with fully charged batteries in the first place. That would also be a good question to ask them, also. It's in their best interest for you to be happy with their products, so exercise your right to know. Good luck

I have 2 batteries that will not charge. They are 18v lithium batteries. The charger just flashes red and green

I do not about a Makita, but my experience with other brands is when that happens, it means the battery is no good and needs replacing.

Won't charge fully

If your warranty has expired, you're best off buying a new drill. Replacing batteries will quickly add up to the cost of a new drill.

I know they cost a lot more, but, if you want something that will last a lot longer, look at a Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Hitachi for your replacement. Milwaukee actually guarantees their LiIon batteries will last 1,000 charges or longer.
