These Chinese made plastic products are not the real thing. It can be fixed but will not operate long term like a real stereo system. For a reliable product you need to be using Technics type turntables and Samsui or Pioneer receivers to get a real system working. They are big and heavy and that is why a lot of them are still working after 40 years.
I know because I have some of those products here- they can be repaired to last as well. I do the repairs.

I have an old record player. It was made in the 80's according to my mom. I have recently started to use it( it hasn't been used since 86). With the exception of 45s, the record player will only play side...

I must say I have never come upon a record deck that will only play one side of a good condition record!
The only action I can suggest is to replace the belt if it's a belt driven deck. Please make a note of how it fits before removing the belt. But why any record deck would treat a new record any different on one side than the other will be a mystery to any good engineer.
The only exception would be if the deck played one side good then played up on every other record. Till it's switched off for a while, then repeats this action.
The cause of this fault would be a part overheating the longer the deck is left on. When you stop it to turn over, the system fails. This is however more likely to happen on a direct drive turntable, not a belt driven one.

Turntable slows down and stops

If it has a belt drive, the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced.

My turn table is going to fast when i play an record , what can i do to fix this? thanks

Hello the turn table has two speeds. 45rpm and 33rpm (rotations per minute) If you are playing a record that takes up the entire turntable you need to set it on 33rpm. For the records that only take up half of the turntable you want to set it on 45rpm. Setting the turntable on the wrong setting for a certain size record can make the record play to fast of to slow.

I managed to record 3 songs and now everytime it stops the recording at 1:01 minutes. I've rebooted the computer and restarted the turntable.

i think you may find that you are using a trial software, which only allows a few trys,(usally with mp3),you either have to get another vinyl record software,or get the serial code for the one you are using

Stanton str8150 decks. motor problem

If it stops after a minute of rotation, then there is something wrong there. If it's brand new, I would say return it, or send it in for warranty repair.

Easrly stop

You will have to disengage the mechanical switch off lift. Pretty nice for an automatic turntable.

Keep me posted.
