That is a common problem with over-under units. You can clean or replace the door seal or, tilt the unit back a TINY bit. The door pops open because there is a common airway from the freezer to the fridge. When the fridge door shuts too fast, it pushes a lot of air into the unit. It needs to go somewhere so, it pops the freezer door open. If you shut the freezer hard enough, you will be able to pop the fridge door open.

SOURCE: Freezer Door Popping Open

Look at the bottom of the freezer door, there is a little plastic stopper there. It may be worn out or broken. When you close the door this is what holds it there. Start there first.

SOURCE: when we close the refrigerator

My new freezer did the same thing. I contacted the company and they went into the whole leveling thing. What it has to do with is the magnetic seal. The magnets are not strong enough to keep the freezer door from popping open when closing the big fridge door. They share the same duct. I level my doors on the fridge and freezer so they swing shut by themselves after opening. Just the force of the big door when it swung closed cracked open the freezer door about a quarter of an inch and if left unnoticed created a puddle and made the fridge run overtime. I solved the problem by placing strong magnets inside the fold of the magnetic seal at the handle end of the door. This is the flap on the outside the door seal. I used six magnets on the top and six on the bottom. The magnets were from discarded Sonicare tooth brush heads. They are very flat and super strong. You can find something on ebay. My freezer door doesn't budge problem solved. I did call the company and told them I solved the problem and they still insisted it was the leveling. Good luck, Art Knapp

SOURCE: The freezer door pops open

The most likely problem is the unit is not level (with a slight tilt to the rear). If your refrigerator doors are not straight and level with each other, then this is the most likely problem.

BUT you might want to also check to make sure that you drain holes are not clogged, and creating a positive pressure situation inside your refrigerator.

The freezer door pops open when the refrigerator door is closed. A service man already looked at it and leveled it, but it still is a problem. The freezer door has a tight seal when used on its own.

It does this because as you close the door, the air pressure goes to the freezer somehow, maybe through a venting that vents cold air from the freezer to the fridge. The resulting pressure in the fridge, goes to the freezer, and opens the door.

Freezer door stays ajar after closing the refrigerator door.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.

I always have icicles in the freezer and anytime we close one of the doors the other comes open and then closes again

Door gasket defective, check for proper seal around door (gasket should be flush against frame when door closed). Also other possible cause is that when you close the door to the ref, the freezer pops open just enough to cause ice to build up around door. Check drain plug inside evap area of freezer, and repalce door gaskets.

GE Profile freezer door problem

I wil let you know of things you can do to solve this.
This happens because the refrigerators of today are air tight, the fresh food door pushes the air into the cabinet as it closes and the air has no place to go but up the air vent into the freezer and "pops" open the freezer door. First thing is make sure the freezer door is capable of closing properly and is not rubbing or catching anywhere. I sometimes add a washer or 2 to the center hinge under the freezer door so it doesn't rub anything. Put a little Vaseline ( or food grade silicone lubricant ) on the hinge side of the seal. I then raise the front of the refrigerator so that the front of the refrigerator is a little higher than the back of the refrigerator. Never level a fridge with a level. Once you have the door closing properly and front slightly higher than the back...let the fresh food door close from 90 degrees on it's own and the freezer door may "pop" open a little but will close again on it's own...and stay closed once all is set up properly. We see this more often now and have no trouble with the door staying open again after setting up the refrigerator properly.

Hope this helps, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a top freezer. Whenever the refrigerator door is closed, the freezer door pops open. There appears to be a good seal around each door... How do I keep the freezer door from poping open, when...

Replace the seals. It may appear to be in good shape but what is happening is the compressed air from closing the refer door is going up and releasing the seal on the freezer I would replace the freezer seal first as that should solve your problem.

Freezer door wont seal and stay closed

Your pushing air from the fridge part over to the freezer door when you clos it,the only thing i can suggest is make sure that the seal (which is magnetic) is clean and not falling apart, inspect it all around the door, and when closing the door i would close it gently.

Hope this helped.Let me know by rating me or

Freezer door won't stay shut

Could be the air pressure created from shutting the refer door is popping open the other one. There are are channels between the two so cool air from the freezer gets to the refer compartment. Try this as a test... s l o w l y close the refer door and see if that keeps the other door from popping open. If that works then it's likely an air channel is frozen up somewhere and you may need to turn the unit off for a day or so to let it thaw out. Moisture from leaking door seals, or doors that were left slightly open overnight can be sucked in and freeze up the air channels. I don't know if you are sort of slamming the door shut or not but the doors need to be shut slowly due to how air tight the new refers are.
