Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-52W3000 52 in. LCD Television
This has been going on for over a year. Tollerated as it would correct itself after 15 minutes of warming up. Now it doesn't go away. White flare starts about 6 inches wide and narrows at it goes down the screen. Does not enter into the bottom 1/4 of the screen. The TV is 5 years old. Thoughts? Thanks
The capacitors at the main power supply regulator board should be checked and replaced. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair! Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center!

This kind of symptoms is an indication of faulty electrolytic capacitor. In the first stage of the symptoms, warm-up will make itself stable and it will work fine but it will get worst like what you've encountered right now.
Most of faulty electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top(see sample picture below) and can be easily identify through visual inspection. Open the back cover of your unit and check the capacitor in the power supply board, once found replace it with same capacitance and working voltage that is printed on its body itself.
If you can't find faulty capacitor with bulged/dome at the top, you may replaced all electrolytic capacitor in the output of the power supply board, it will not cost you much because this is one of the cheapest part on that board, cost only $4 at the most each...
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
