Question about Intuit QuickBooks: Pro 2005 for PC

Cant access info tool bar grayed out

After entering my password on the Quickbooks login screen, my company name and Quickbooks 2005 shows at the top but is sort of grayed out and absolutely nothing can be accessed. I am not even able to minimize or exit. The only way to close it is through my windows task manager which says the program is running and that it is waiting for a response from me.
Suggestions?

    I have seen this only once before. Quickbooks has the nasty habit of displaying ads for their newer versions in a new window on your computer when starting quickbooks. I was able to work around this once by logging in to quickbooks with a different user, maximizing the window, logging off, logging back on with my own account and the second window popped up visible this time. There was a little checkbox which said "do not show this window again", so I checked it. Never had this problem again.
    I don't know if the issue you are dealing with is the same, so I will post this as a "similar problem" instead of a solution.

    Is this happening at your workplace and do you have an IT guy that works there. Or is this happening at home? The reason I ask is that it sounds like somehow you lost permissions to open that program

I saw this same problem on a client's computer. BelgianAlien's analysis was correct... problem was an advertisement. Thing was, we couldn't *see* the advertisement because the window wasn't maximixed. Note that you only get those ads *after* you log into your company file though! Aha! So, what I did was click cancel when it would request the password for the company file. Without that, it can't log into the company file (and pop up the ad) and then QB prompts you for where to find the company file. You can maximize the window now, log in, kill the advertisement, and go about your business.

Cannot open Quik Books 2007


Windows XP:
  1. Uninstall QuickBooks, Microsoft .NET Framework, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable:
    1. Close QuickBooks.
    2. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
    3. Enter control in the Open field and click OK.
    4. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    5. Right-click your QuickBooks program version and click Change/Remove.
    6. Follow the instructions to Uninstall QuickBooks.
    7. Repeat steps d through f to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable.
    8. Repeat steps d through f to uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework for your version of QuickBooks:
      • QuickBooks 2008 and 8.0 and later:Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
      • QuickBooks 2007 and 7.0 and earlier:Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
  2. Rename the QuickBooks program folder:
    1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.
    2. Browse to C:\Program Files\Intuit.
    3. Right-click the QuickBooks folder for the version you just uninstalled (for example, QuickBooks 2008) and select Rename.
    4. Enter OLD_ at the beginning of the folder name and press Enter (for example, OLD_QuickBooks2008).
  3. Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive, and follow the instructions to install the program.
  4. Open QuickBooks.

Cannot access the program, it is passworded (But I never set one)


There can be a couple of causes for this:
1. You are trying to open a different company file than you typically work in ( search the system for *.qbw, there may be file located in different folders)
2. A portion of the database may have become damaged.

If the database is damaged, you would need to have data recovery run on it to fix it. The problem is that you are using v 2003, which Intuit no longer supports. They only way they may fix it is if you are updating to a newer version, such as 2009.
One other thing you could try is to make a copy of the file, and see if intuits free password removal tools can reset the password.

I have a company in Quickbooks Pro 2005 that I cannot reopen. The password won't work. I'm the administrator and the password that I usually use simply doesn't do it. I need to reset this company password...

To solve this, first be sure that you don't have the Cap lock on and retry the ID and password.
If that isn't the problem and you still can't open the file, QuickBooks offers a password reset at their website if you have a current backup. The page walks you through the process step by step. You will need to have your license number and also you need to verify that your contact information is on file with them.

Hopefully you have a current backup of the company - that is what they will use to remove the password.

Have quickbooks simple start had to get new computer and i pay for for onloine back up and its not working


Tou need to contact Intuit at 800-446-8848. Their x=customer service people are the only ones with access to those servers.
