Question about Sony VAIO VGC-RB42G PC Desktop
How to get back to normal
You will need a windows recovery disc, you can make one on any Windows Vista/7 computer
Windows Button > Control Panel > Backup and Restore > Create a system repair disc.
Boot to the recovery disc and type the following commands
compact /U C:\bootmgr
compact /U C:\ntldr
That should uncompress them.

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hi JG78 - If you bought the stock model of your PC it originally came with a SATA 250GB drive. SATA drives have a faster transfer rate so if your PC can handle it ( and it can ) then you definitely want to get a SATA drive. Make sure you back up any info, documents, pictures, etc on cd's or dvd's. Or when you install the new drive you can just make your old drive a secondary drive and transfer the info you need to save before you remove it. Also be sure you have all software and drivers you need before you install the new drive so you won't have the hassle of having to locate them later. If you need to download them you can put them on a cd so they'll be ready to go. If this answered your question PLEASE rate this as fixed. If you need more help or assistance with this just add a comment and I'll be glad to give you a hand. Thanks.

After I opened the case to clean all the dust out and closed it up again when I tried to start it up again I had a blinking green light on the power supply and the computer would not start up. I found an exact power supply online and after installing the green light was on steady and the computer fired right up so this time the blinking light indicated a bad power supply. My computer GURU told me it was just a coincidence that the failure happened at the time that I decided to clean up the tower.

Unless you know someone that has it, the only way you can get it is through Sony. You can't get it as a download. The good news is they only charge US $17.95 so it is affordable. Here is a link to the recovery DVD ordering site for the RB42G...
