Replace Thermostat in 2001 Expedition 5.4 bolts won't break

I was told if I can't get the bolts to break clean that I will be snapping off a 4" bolt that will require me tearing down the top end to replace it. Ant info on the 2 bolts that hold the Thermostat housing?

SOURCE: can't adjust 2004 Ford Expedition headlight

I had a similar problem on my 04 expedition. I just bought it and the headlights were aiming too far down. A rather larger gap was noticeable between the headlight and the hood. The so called adjustment bolt did nothing. I removed the headlights and found 2 issues. On the adjustment bolt there is a washer. Make sure when you re-install the headlight the washer sets on top of the plastic slot and is visible when looking down behind the headlight. Without the washer being in the correct location it will not tighten the headlight in place.
Second I found the adjustment bolt adjusted nothing. It merely tightened the headlight in place. What I had to do was to loosen this bolt and physically move the headlight into place and the re-tighten the bolt. Hence the slot is the adjustment. Turning the bolt CW or CCW did not move the headlight.
I tried several things trying to figure why the lights would not move until I realized I could move the light with my hands and tightened them in place using the adjustment bolt.

This may not be your issue but I found the owners manual instructions to be useless.

SOURCE: torque wrench settings for ford focus thermostat

There is a set spec, but for the DIY mechanic,,
Using a !/4 " drive, with the correct long socket, apply a FIRM effort on the wrench, but obviously not too much, as to sheer the studs. Always use a NEW gasket on all mating surfaces.
Regards,DT

Window cable broke so window does not go up and down

The window regulator cable on a Ford Expedition is part of the regulator assembly and is not serviceable separately. Therefore, if your Expedition's window regulator cable incurs damage, you'll need to replace the entire regulator. The cable moves the regulator up or down in response to the window motor. If the cable malfunctions, you won't have command of your Expedition's power window until you replace the regulator. If you have basic auto-repair skills and an hour of free time, you can replace your Expedition's window regulator. Pry the window switch bezel out of the Expedition's door panel using your trim tool. Disconnect the switch from the door harness by hand and set the switch/bezel assembly aside.

  • 2 Remove the hex head screws from the door panel using the Phillips screwdriver. Depending on the year of your Expedition, you may need to remove a trim cover from behind the inner door handle with the trim tool to expose that screw.
  • 3 Lift the door panel up and off the door by hand. If your Expedition has a courtesy light in the lower-trailing edge of the panel, disconnect that light from the door wiring harness before moving the panel away from the door.
  • 4 Push the Expedition's window to the top of the window frame by hand. Tape the glass to the top of the door with packing tape to prevent it from dropping back down.
  • 5 Remove the window regulator mounting bolts with the socket set. Unbolt the regulator from the window glass with the socket set. Pull the old regulator out of the Expedition's door by hand.
  • 6 Set the new window regulator into the Expedition's door by hand. Bolt it in place with the socket set.
  • 7 Reinstall the Expedition's door panel in reverse of how you removed it.

    How to change the thermostat

Hi, Follow the top rad hose and at the end of that is the thermostat. Undo the two bolts and there it is.
But first you will have to drain some fluid out to make it easier to access. Good luck.

Where is the thermostat location on 1998 ford taurus 3.0L 24V dohc

Just follow the top radiator hose to the engine. That is where the thermostat housing is located on most engines. The housing is held on by two or three bolts and is connected to the hose. Be carefull taking the bolts out. If they don't come out with minimal wrench force, the gasket around the housing has leaked antifreeze on the bottom bolt and rusted it tight. I snapped one off and had to have the car towed to my machanic to have it drilled out and retapped. It wasn't pretty and cost me an extra $80.00 to what shoud have been a simple job. You may want to consider getting stainless steel bolt to replace the stock bolts. They won't rust.

Igot 2005 expedition i take to autozone to check the lt and the code 506 its the winner how i can fix this low rpm.

You told us next to nothing about you
    trucks issues

PO506 ---Idle Air Control System Malfunction

Without a long explaination you won't understand

Try removing and cleaning the IAC Valve, only
AFTER you make sure you have NO VACUUM
Leaks ANYWHERE on the truck. Easier said than done.

If that doesn't work replace it ONLY after you clean
the throttle plate with CRC Throttle Body Cleaner

You have the 3 valve Ford engine with the 2 piece
glued together spark plugs that break apart as you
    remove them

I would install new plugs BEFORE i even started on the
IAC Valve as well as clean the MAF Sensor, again CRC
MAF Cleaner and replace the front 2 O2 Sensors at
100,000 miles. (Every thing sort of works as a team here)
Fords are not everyones favorite,to work on. just another
engine,so hang in there, the theory still applies.

Spark Plugs---Champion 7989 only one piece plug currently
    & not cheap
You will need a Lisle 65600 Broken Plug removal tool
BEFORE you start. Two broken plugs, your one of the
    lucky ones

Will be here if you need help

Have to remove the computer from firewall
to get the #4 plug out

How To Replace the #5 coil for a 2001 Ford Expedition

if you know that it is the coil. changing it is really easy. you are going to need a 10mm socket with extention. a 7mm socket for the coil mount bolt. first leading bank is number 1-4 front going back( passenger side) driver side is 5-8. 5 is the front cylinder on drivers side. remove the power stearing bracket 3 10mm bolts. coil is right underneath. intake can be removed if you feel is needed. after that there is a 7mm bolt remove the bolt. disconnect the 2 pin connector. pull to remove the coil. the boot may come off if coil hasn't been moved in some time. use pliers to remove it if that happens. blow out spark plug hole with shop air. installed new coil. install 7mm bolt. plug connector in. reinstall power steering mount bracket. good to go.
