Restart your computer During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key this will vary depending on your computer and operating system Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart. Hope this helps. if this fails to fix the problem During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode To perform a system restore, follow these steps: 1.Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK. 2.On the General tab, click Launch System Restore. 3.Select Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. 4.Calendar dates in bold are possible restore points. Click the most recent one to view system restore information. 5.Select a system checkpoint or an installation restore point, and then click Next. 6.Close all other programs. 7.To start the system restore, click Next. 8.Your computer restarts. Repeat steps 1 through 8 until you fix your configuration issue. Hope this helps.

For the psswords i can recomend to reset them from BIOS but to do that you must first know them. The problem with recovery disks is solvable if you boot from an XP disc and format the C: partition in NTFS file sistem and when it starts copying files to install the windows stop the installation ( F3 or press the power button for more than 4 seconds.. don't worry you will not sustain disk damage... done it myself with the same notebook for a dozen times ) After formatting the partition C: try recovery again and it will work.
NOTE: for the formatting of the partition you must set the HDD mode from AHCI to ATA witch permits the XP setup utility to "see" the HDD. If it is set in AHCI mode the setup utility for windows XP will not detect youre HDD

Hi,

Hi you should keep on tapping F8 while booting so that an option will appear to select safe mode. or if you have a recovery CD restart the computer then press F2 or Delete to access the Bios Page look for Boot Options and change the first boot priority to your CDROM restart the computer and just follow the instruction on the recovery disk.

Thanks for using Fixya.

How do I download a recovery disk free for an acer aspire 5920?

You most likely can't. OEM system builders...HP, Acer, Lenov, DELL usually don't provide a recovery disk with their laptops so they can charge you later when you need it. This is done to keep their costs down and increase profit.

Most cases, when you got your new laptop, there were instructions to "Create Recovery discs". But 99% of most users never do.

Result: you will need to call Acer and order the recovery discs or see if anyone has them on ebay/craigslist cheaper. Acer is best bet, so you don't end up with wrong or non-working discs and prolong your problem. Should be about $25-50 including shipping.

Creating recovery discs After setting up the computer for the first time, be sure to create a set of recovery discs of the full factory image. the recovery discs are used to start up (boot) the computer and recover the operating system and software to factory settings in case of system instability or failure.

Can't get the system to boot in any configuration

Hi there.
The system files have become corrupt so it won't start properly, the only option left for you to do is recover the system.
If you didn't get any recovery disks with the laptop then you must use the recovery partition.
As the computer starts you can try ALT+F10 or CTRL+F10 during the initial boot cycle - this will prompt the laptop to access the recovery partition on the hard drive.

Good luck

The system cannot find the specified file

It seems as though your windows is corrupted. To solve this I would recommend a recovery back to factory settings but this will delete all the data of the computer.

You can save your data by
using an IDE/ATA to USB adapter on another computer or take it to computer store.

To begin the recovery
Remove all external devices like printers, mp3 players etc

Ensure the laptop is running on ac power

You can start the Recovery from outside Windows by holding down ALT and F10 on the Acer BIOS splashscreen on power up.
