Toshiba a500 wont turn on

Toshiba satellite a500 will not start more. Only light ac-light. AC adapter is working properly. On the motherboard I measure 3.3v and 5v. When I press the power button, nothing happens. (Fan does not work either.)

If your laptop won't turn on, you could have any number of problems. The problem might be a genuine power issue derived from either battery failure or simply a loose AC adapter. Conversely, it may only appear to be a power failure, and the problem may lie with another component. Errors in brightness settings and LCD display malfunctions can both make a laptop appear to be powered off, and all these problems will need to be corrected.
Look at the battery indicator light on your computer. Is it on? If so, check your brightness settings. If your laptop appears that it is not on, it may in actuality have lowered brightness settings. If the brightness setting is at its lowest setting, the laptop screen will be completely dark, and the laptop will appear to be powered off, even though it is not. Try cranking up the brightness settings. Check your AC power adapter. Is it snugly plugged into the wall or surge protector? Make sure the connection is made and it is not loose. Also, try connecting the power adapter into a different wall outlet. Check the status of your laptop battery by considering how long you have had the same battery. Most modern batteries are only good for about 1,000 full charges. After that point, the battery can and eventually will greatly deteriorate. Replace your battery if necessary. Replace your battery by powering off your laptop and then flipping it over and locating the battery cover outline, which will be near the bottom back of your laptop. Remove any screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pop off the battery cover. Slide out the old battery. Put in the new battery by sliding it in until it clicks, and then replace the cover. Consider replacing your laptop monitor. Your laptop may power on, but if the monitor display does not work, it will appear to be off and you will not be able to operate the machine. Check to see if your current LCD display works by plugging your laptop up to an external monitor using a VGA cable. If the external monitor displays your computer contents, your computer motherboard and underlying systems are still working, but your display will need to be replaced. Replace an LCD display by removing the screws around the bezel of your current display with a Phillips screwdriver. Pop off the bezel carefully and remove it. Then, locate the screws on the two metal brackets beneath the bezel and on either side of the display, and remove these too. Disconnect the inverter cable, which is plugged into the inverter. The inverter is located just beneath the display, at the bottom-center of the laptop. Then, pull back and slide out the old display, and replace it with the new. Put the metal bracket screws back in place, reconnect the inverter cable, and then pop the bezel in place. Replace the bezel screws. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite L25-S119 Does not Power on

The Toshiba laptops are famous for the power jack wriggling loose from the motherboard. Once it gets so loose the adapter power stops and it uses battery power until that runs out. You can usually move the power cord around until it starts working again but this is just a temporary fix and the jack will eventually need to be replaced. Most computer shops charge between 100-250 bucks for this service.

Move the power jack around while plugged in, does the blinking on the battery stop when you hold it in certain positions? If so, your dc-jack needs to be soldered, but i probably was loose already before you started using it. It could be a broken motherboard issue as well. You can try to open the laptop and check the dc connection. There is a Laptop Repair Guide that shows you how to take apart a laptop, the sony may be made in a similar way. Sony Repair NYC

My toshiba satellite U505 turns off suddenly when i turn it on. What might be the problem

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:

Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

My Toshiba L10 will not switch on the power supply is ok and plugged in and there is a blue light on to say power cord is connected but still will not power up, any ideas?

Do you have a known good ac adapter to try it with? Or is that ac adapter you were saying lights on powering on a different computer?Try to test both to check the functionality of the ac adapter and the port. If ac adapter will work with a different pc, then possibly the port is damaged. You may need to replace the motherboard. If still it wont turn on, then you may just need to replace the ac adapter.

Wont power from main but power up frombattery

Either the motherboard or the ac adapter might be ba. Make sure the outlet your plugging the laptop into has power first.

Once you verify that then try using the AC Adapter and see if that works. If it doesn't work and it only turns on from the battery for 30 seconds then you need to try a new AC Adapter and see if that fixes it, if it doesn't then its a motherboard issue at that point cause the means its not seeing the AC Adapter properly.

Power on problem

First that u need to do is to remove the battery from your toshiba laptop. Plug in the AC adapter alone and power it on. If it works, then u need to check your battery. If the notebook wont power on with the AC adapter alone, then i think its a NO POST issue. The motherboard needs to be checked.
