Question about Whirlpool WGD7990XG Vantage High Efficiency Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool Vantage dryer lint screen will not slide securely into place. It sticks out about 1/2 an inch. No lint reside is in the bottome of the compartment. What could be the problem?

It seems as if something is blocking the screen when sliding it into place. However, I can see nothing that might block it. I even cleaned the lint residue out as best I could. Thanks.

Check the leading edge of the screen itself to see if it is expanded. Then, once again check the full debth of the slide there must be something all the way at the leading edge that is stopping it, probably compressed lint. You may have to use a flashlight and long thin piece of wire to fish out the glob.

take a screwdriver and push it in below the door at the top of the bottom panel, near each end of the panel, there is a springclip to pry on that that releases the panel and it will fold out and then lift off. then you can get access by removing a few screws.

SOURCE: lint fell back into lint trap. how can i get it out? already looked in back.

An appliance store can sell you a brush that is attached to a long wire. It is made specifically for removing lint from dryers. I have seen them at walmart and other places but for sure at an appliance store. Good luck.

I have a Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care dryer. The lint filter is in front bottom at the door. I was cleaning out big chunks of lint and the tape fell down in. How do I open the front bottom plate to get in and...

if it's a regular whirlpool dryer get a screw driver, stick it into the space where the bottom and top door panel meet, slide the screw driver over a few inches and you should hit the clip that holds the bottom panel in place, push the screw driver in nad lift up a little and pull the panel out as you do this, then do this on the other side, and do this with the dryer unplugged.then remove the lint filter and look at the metal duct that the filter slides into, you'll see two 1/4 inch screws one on each side up top, remove them and pull out the duct, now you can clean it out.

Lint screen won't go down all teh way.

take the metal duct out that the lint filter slides down into, stick the metal strip through the hole in the side of the duct so that when it's in the bottom part of strip is flush up against the back side wall of duct and it should have like a half inch or so sticking out of the hole, but before you stick it in clean out the duct and with a thin long screw driver open the plastic cover that the filter slides through and poke out any lint in the slots that the filter slides unplug the dryer, remove the bottom panel of dryer, remove the lint filter and screws that hold the lint filter duct in place they are 1/4 inch head screws, clean out the duct and the side slots up above the duct in the plastic area then slide the metal strip into the hole so that the bottom part that you first put into the hole fits flush up against the back inside wall of duct and the top of strip will be flush to the outside wall of duct and like around 1/2 inch or so still showing.hope this helps

There is lint down in the "basin" below the lint filters and I cannot reach it to vacuum it out. I empty the lint screens after each and every load but this has built up in the bottom in the stainles

unplug it,remove the bottom panel, pull out the lint filter, you'll see the metal duct that the lint filter slides into, remove the 1/4 inch screws that hold it in place and remove it and vac it out,if you have a shop vac you can blow the lint off of the motor and blow all the lint in the back of the cabinet forwards and then vac it up,this way you don't have to pull the dryer apart to clean it,you should do this once a year so you don't have any problems with the dryer and your clothes will dry on time, also you should clean out the vent line, pull out the dryer, remove the vent line,if it's a long run stick a leaf blower into the vent line and blow all the lint in it outside, first make sure you don't have a cage or anything that will catch the lint,if you do remove it and don't put it back then go inside and blow out the line.this happens to every dryer even if you clean the lint filter every time.hope this helps and good luck with your dryer

Whirlpool duet dryer no error message but drum won't turn

take the bottom panel off and make sure the belt is attached it would be located to the left rear attached to a pulley and a motor. you also could have a blown thermal fuse which you would have to unplug unit from wall take the bottom panel off remove the lint screen then remove the blower housing this is what the lint screen sits in I think it has3 1/4 inch bolts you need to remove directly behind that you will see a white flat thing with 2 red wires going to it. remove the wires and check continuity. let me know how it goes

Broken Belt on Whirlpool Dryer How do you get to the motor

Okay...follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer before servicing.
2. Lift the lint screen door on top if the dryer and remove lint screen.
3. Remove the two screws under the lint screen door.
4. With the screws removed, the top panel will slide towards you, then lift up. Open the panel up and rest against the wall.
5. Carefully disconnect the door switch connector plug (white plastic connector).
6. With the door securely closed, remove the two screws that hold the front panel in place. There should be one screw on the interior cabinet on either side. Position your body to hold the panel in place as you remove the screws in order to prevent the panel from falling.
7. With the door latch disconnected and screws removed, the entire front panel should lift up and off. Set aside.
8. You should have access to the dryer interior now. The drum is designed to be removable. You can replace the belt with the drum in place, or remove it. The choice is yours. NOTE: This is a good time to remove the drum and inspect the dryer interior for lint build up and lubricate the drum roller supports.
9. The following link will explain how to properly route the dryer belt on your dryer:

Scroll down to "Whirlpool". You should be using diagram H.

NOTE: If you removed the drum, make sure it is properly re-installed before installing the belt. This is accomplished by inserting the back of the drum so the rear groove rests on top of the rollers. While holding it in place and supporting the front of the drum, slowly rotate clockwise until you feel the rollers engage into the groove.

10. Re-install front panel by aligning the two small square holes on the back of the front panel bottom with the two small black cleats on the side panel front edges. This may require assistance if you cannot accomplish on your own. Insert panel and hold in place as you reinstall screws.

11. IMPORTANT: Reconnect door switch connector plug or dryer will not run.

12. Lower top panel back in place and re-install the two screws under the lint screen door.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you require further assistance, please let me know.

I am trying to figure out how the cabinet to my dryer comes apart so I will be able to replace the heating element.

If your dryer has the lint screen on top of the cabinet, the heating circuits are located in the rear of the dryer. They can be accessed by removing the rear panel.

If your dryer has the lint screen in the door, the heating circuits are located under the dryer drum. They can be accessed by removing the lower panel under the dryer door. The panel comes off by inserting a putty knife in the seam, about 2 inches in on each side and depressing the release tabs. If this is a Kenmore Elite or Whirlpool Duet model, the lower panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge of the lower panel.

If there is no removable panel, the entire front casing needs to come off. This is accomplished by lifting the dryer top to gain access to the screws that hold the front panel place. Use care not damage the door switch connector(s) in the process.

Lifting the top panel can be accomplished in the following ways (depending on model):

1. Grab the sides of the top panel and pull towards you while lifting up.

2. Lift the operator console first and then remove the three screws holding the top panel in place. Once the screws are removed the panel slides forward, then off.

I hope this is helpful to you. If you experience problems, please post back with your model number, so I can narow down which dryer configuration you have. Good Luck.

Kenmore dryer (electric )

Almost always a thermal fuse.

If your lint screen is in the door, follow these directions:
Disconnect the power. Remove the lint screen. Slide a putty knife in between the toe panel and the bottom of the door three inches from either side. this will release the clips at the top. Tilt the toe panel out at the top and lift it off the clips on the bottom.
Remove the two 1/4 in screws at the top of the metal triangular box around the lint screen. There may be one more ***** near the bottom right of the box holding a gold bracket in place. Remove that ***** or lift the box off the black metal clip at the bottom.
You can now reach the thermal fuse. It's the white plastic part with two wires on it near the blower wheel. If you have an ohm meter, you can test it now. Or remove it (one 1/4 in *****) and take it to the parts store for testing.

If your lint screen is in the top of the machine, follow these directions:
Disconnect power. Remove the lint screen. Remove the two Phillips screws under the lint screen handle.
Pull the dryer away from the wall about 2 feet or more. Disconnect the vent pipe from the bottom of the dryer. Remove the nine 1/4 in screws holding the back panel on, along with the small metal cover. Lift and remove the back panel.
You can now reach the thermal fuse. It's the white plastic part with two wires, close to the blower wheel. If you have an ohm meter, you can test it now. Or remove it (one 1/4 in *****) and take it to the parts store for testing.
While you're back there, be sure to clean out the long metal box that the lint screen goes into (four more 1/4 inch screws.)
