Many Toshiba laptops, including Satellite, Portege and Qosmio models, feature built-in Chicony-brand webcams. The Chicony webcam can be problematic, especially when running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista. Microsoft has released an update that will correct problems with starting the webcam after terminating "Sleep" mode. Users may also have to install the appropriate driver or webcam software to correct webcam problems.
Dark or Black Webcam Image Problems b> Toshiba laptop owners may have problems with the webcam displaying as dark or completely black a few seconds after the initial image appears or immediately after engaging the webcam. Users should ensure that the webcam indicator light is engaged. If not, users should run the "Camera Assistant Software" to turn on the webcam. Low light can cause the webcam to power off and to display a dark image. Users can tweak the light and contrast by manually increasing the lighting in the room or by turning on "Night Mode." If these steps do not correct the dark image problem, users may have to reset the webcam itself, reinstall the "Camera Assistant" software. b> Webcam Problems After Terminating Sleep Mode b> Toshiba laptop owners with Windows Vista (any 32-bit edition) installed and the Chicony webcam may have problems starting the webcam after restoring the laptop from "Sleep" mode. "Sleep" mode powers down a number of hardware components in the laptop. The webcam is capable of entering a non-operating system-induced sleep mode when it is not used for an extended period of time. After the user engages Windows "Sleep" mode and wakes the laptop, the webcam may give error messages such as "Locked by another application." This webcam problem can be corrected by installing a Windows Hotfix, which is also included in Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). Webcam Problems After Upgrading Windows Vista
Toshiba Satellite laptop owners may opt to use the Microsoft Anytime Upgrade to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. After doing so, the Chicony webcam may stop working and report a "Please turn on the camera" error message. Users can correct this problem by reinstalling the Chicony driver. b> Webcam Problems on Linux b> Linux users who own Toshiba laptops with the Chicony webcam should install the Linux UVC Driver to make the webcam functional. The webcam may not work without this driver. b> Grainy or Blurry Webcam Image b> The Chicony webcam can produce grainy or blurry images if the user does not remove the protective film that covers the external webcam interface.
http://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for IE: webcam name webcam driver you might have to try a few times to get it right software if you dont have the driver you will need to download one here rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours http://download.cnet.com/slimdrivers-free/3000-18513_4-75279940.html Windows XP/Vista/7/8 It might take some time being a freeware driver solution note: it will find all of your outdated drivers this is a free driver solutions this will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right. But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime
software are installed and up to date. But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing. Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10). http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Which-version-of-DirectX-is-on-your-computer Hope this helps

Trying to find out if my hp625 has an nternal microphone. Used a skype connection this morning but contact couldn't hear me. Can't fiind and hp documentation on it. ebcam worked a treat though!

Have you tried in the mixer to see if the mic is muted?
Right click on the speaker icon and open volume control, click options and select the recording button for the tick box that will show the mic input, then back on the mixer it should have a mute tick box. Uncheck that and you should have sound.

Hi , My inbuilt webcam is not working all. When I try to switch on the w ebcam I get a message saying'webcam not found'. What should I do?

Update the drivers for the webcam. You can get them from microsoft or pc's manufacture's website.

You can also go to control panel, go to system, go to device manager, find your cam on the hardware list, make sure it is enabled and see if there is a driver warning

How do i turn off my built in mic off

The built-in mic is actually always enabled. It only gets disabled once you connect an external mic just as you have done. Disabling it disables the mic capability which means that it also disables your external mic capability. If you have any problem with the built-in mic being on all the time you could try to go to the volume controller and mute it from there. The downside here is that you would actually need to unmute it each time you use your external mic.

I have one of your lap tops a6720/g520 but do not

To turn on the camera first of all the Camera Drivers and the Software has to be installed. If installed you can Turn on and access the built in camera by opening the Icon located in Control Panel --> Scanners and Cameras. When you open the "Scanners and Cameras" Tool in the control panel you can find the installed In Built Camera Icon, Double Click the icon to open. Thank you for contacting Fixya.
