Firstly have you tried the brightness control or contrast?
If all else fails try the factory reset setting. If you don't know where that is use the manual - if you don't have one visit the Sony Website and you should get a free PDF of it.

The dark scencs in the TV shows are very dark even hard to see the people (The Black List) which has a lot of dark screen's. Is there a fix or just the way it is Thanks

Under settings you can choose between different types of viewing such as Cinematic, Warm, Normal, Cool, Sports, Dynamic...etc. That is one way. Just toggle through them until it looks better to you. The other way is to adjust the brightness under picture settings like the good old days.

Dark Picture

Losing picture quality as my face moves out of a direct line with the screen is a real irritation for me about flat screen tv sets. The early LCD types were the worst but technology has moved on and things aren't nearly so bad these days as a different and more expensive technology is available to suit all manner of situations and pockets.

Technology is moving very fast in the matter of tv sets and my advice is to buy something that will do the job you want as cheap as you can with the best warranty you can get because if it goes wrong out of warranty you need to be able to afford to throw it away as repairs are becoming an expensive luxury...

The broken set would need transporting to the repair shop and the cost of an engineer diagnosing the problem would be a fair way towards a new replacement before the repair had even begun.

Those people in the old days of computers who were paying upwards of £1000 for the latest new computer were shocked to discover two years later the same thing was being offered for less than half the price and after five years their expensive baby was hardly worth any more than scrap value.

The same thing happened with the video recorder and then DVD players and today it is televisions. Buying secondhand from people who upgrade is a brilliant way of owning a decent tv. My "new" flat screen digital tv cost me £9 from a car boot sale, my daughter's second tv is better than the one she paid real money for and she paid £13 for it in an ebay auction and a friend has spent months trying to sell for £30 a huge tv he paid over £600 for only a few years ago...

I hope I have provided food for thought...

The red light turns on but no picture comes on

Get real close to screen and maybe use a flash light to shine on the screen and see if you can see the picture still, it will be dark and almost not visible but you should notice something move. If your screen has picture then you most likely have a back light problem. Most common problems are bad inverters, or the inverter controller card. possibly a bad power supply but most likely inverters, test each circuit, replace as needed.

We recently got a new LG 42" 1080p HDTV and occasionally the screen goes dim/gets slightly darker while we are watching shows. It is not the show as I have tested the same spot the dimness occurs...

It can be the auto-contrast is doing its jobs so LG can claim that the TV has really high contrast ratio, also try turning off auto brightness feature off. It gets real bad when the scene has dark back ground such as the dark sky with stars, the TV will really dim down to give real black sky but at the same time you can barely see the stars on the screen, LG is not the only one with this design problem, VIZIO and other has the same problem as well. If you Google your model and search for review you may see that you are not the only one with this problem.
What is the exact model of this TV.
Please let me know what you find.

I have a LG 42LB5D 42" 1080 LCD television that

hi, usually you can correct this issue with only a few system checks, dark streaks can be caused by damaged pixels on the screen, in which case you need to replace the TV.
  • Inspect where the dark streaks are on the television. If the streaks occur at the same place on the top and bottom of the screen, they are due to the formatting of a movie or television show you are watching. This is normal. Also, if the streaks appear on the left and right of the screen, they are due to the show being filmed in full-screen instead of wide-screen. This also is normal.

  • Change the input setting so you are viewing the contents of a different device. If the dark streaks are gone, you know they are due to the device connected to it. However, if the dark streaks remains no matter what input the TV is connected to, the problem lies with the television.

  • Inspect the cable connection. Oftentimes when connecting a computer to an LCD TV, you can have strange dark streaks across the screen. Use a DVI-to-HDMI cable connection when plugging in your computer, then press the "Menu" button on your TV remote, select "Picture" and chose "Square Pixel." See whether the image adjusts and the dark streak goes away.
  • Contact the manufacturer of your LCD television if the dark streak remains. This streak can be caused by a defect in the television; if the TV is still under warranty, you can have it replaced.

I open my laptop but nothing shows on the screen, it is black

either the internal video has failed. or the hard drive . if the buttons light up but the screen is just real dark it might even be what we call an inverter board. black screen whit cursor is a hard drive problem. no activity is the video on the mother board. so the motherboard would have to be replaced.

Hey own a 2003 hitachi model #46f500. love it a lot,but has a tint of red on screen. when dark movies are on gets real dark. when its day light on tv it looks great. info please

It sounds like the CRT tubes are weak which will not practical to replace them.

But try to clean the dust on tube first and if it doesn;t help do this...

Risk of electric shock, focus block carries 4 kilo votls, do at your own risk or DO NOT do it at all.

Just try to adjust the screen voltage adjustment to brighten the 3 tubes from focus block, to do this you have to open the back then let the TV run for abut 10 minutes beofre adjusting, each tube has its own screen voltage adjustment, read the label make sure not to tuch the focus adjusment, do not crank up too much make it very slow or your TV will show retrace lines or it will shutdown.

    good luck.
