SOURCE: Will not change direction

First thing i would do is to put penetrating oil around the knob that you twist as it probably is just sticking. You can remove the air motor from the top assy & clean and oil everything as long as you put it back the same way. Thats what I do. Hope this helps you, Rick

SOURCE: Dont know where to put oil in Craftsman 1/2 " Impact wrench

I just bought one of these also. Manual says oil goes into "the air inlet" which I'm thinking is where you attach the hose. That way the oil is sprayed throughout the interior of the gun once you run air through it.
Question for you: I can't get an impact socket onto this gun, almost seems like the square hole is too small. (yes, both are 1/2" drive). How do you get a socket on this stupid thing?
(man that sounds like I'm an idiot, but I've spent a half hour leaning all my body wight, wiggling, etc. and can't get a damn socket on)

Air opertes but locks up under load

Sounds like you might have a problem with the hammer (clutch) mechanism, these types of impacts are direct drive there a re no gears, so the hammer (clutch) mechanism must have the ability to splip after impacting to allow the air motor to turn. Disassemble and look for broken hammer pins, hammer dogs.

No torque on my impact #875 198641

If you are trying to loosen or tighten a bolt or nut the the impact just stops more than likely there is a problem in the hammer (clutch) mechanism (items# 24 through 30), there could be broken part causing the mechanism to jam, the hammer (clutch) needs to hit and then slip to let the motor turn as they are directly coupled (no gears). On the flip side in the motor there are vanes (blades)
(item# 17) that need to have free movement and could also cause a condition were the motor could have low power or cause a locked condition.

Trigger sticking can not switch on

Make sure the direction switch isn't in the middle. That keeps the trigger from inadvertently being activated.

Impact turns but no tork why

An impact wrench works by directing air into a chamber where a hub with sliding vanes turns to do your work for you. If any of the five or six vanes are damaged the tork value will go down. It is possible for the hub to turn freely however the more air that gets past the vanes, instead of pushing on them, the lower your tork value will be. The bearings for the hub could be damaged or seized but that usually affects free spinning speed more than tork. The insides of an impact wrench are fairly simple, take it apart and check the vanes and bearings. Ingersol Rand makes rebuild kits for most of their impact wrenches.

My directional control buttons on the gun are sticking

Ingersoll Rand impacts have o-rings that are mounted in the housing or on the valve that are susceptible to swelling and causing the reverse valve to stick!
if you know the model number, follow this link to find the appropriate manual to see the valve set up.

I have a brand new CH Model TL050299, 1/2" impact wrench running off a 20 gal, 3.5 HP Devilbliss compressor that delivers 6.8 scfm at 90 PSIG. The compressor regulator is set at 100 PSI, and I am running...

If you take this wrench apart you will find cut outs where the air is pushed through when these Chinese pieces of fie work punched out the medal they left the punched out part in the wheel thus you do not get the torque. I removed the pieces and it functioned OK. Not the best wrench. Sorry quality control usually CH is better about quality.

Sand has entered my CP734 impact wrench.

Check the following website. It is a pdf file, so you will need Acrobat Reader, which is available on this website. After it loads, it lists various CP model numbers on the left side, so scroll down to 734 and click on it( it says 734 OBS) and it will open an exploded view of the breakdown of the CP 734 impact wrench. On the Acrobat toolbar, you can expand the picture as much as you want to and print it.

Good Luck!

"Heat" and air impact is the trick. Get it as hot as you can and hit it with air impact. Be careful not to burn yourself!

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck with your repair.
