Re: need a part

Parts for items like this are virually none existant. The normal thing to do is to replace the whole item. However if it is of recent manufacture then try the customer support team at Nikon

I can't find a replacement main fresnel panel for my Canon 550EX. Any suggestions?

Canon often won't sell replacement parts like this to consumers but you may get your local repair shop to order one for you or find a dead one on Ebay or Craigslist and use it for parts.

Can I get parts for the Sunpak 622?

Tocad the Sunpak distributor in the US does still distribute one of the 622 series,so you might be able to get them repaired or get spare parts. Be aware the voltages and energies available in the flash capacitors are dangerous, so you have to have electronics knowledge/skills to work on them safely. There was an ebay seller who used to sell a scanned vewrsion of the service manual for the 622.

METZ 60 CT-4 batteries and capacitors

Although you can still get lead acid batteries from Sonnenschein (the original oem manufacturer) for the Metz CT60 units, a better choice are the Lithium ferrite phosphate or Lithium ion batteries, now available on ebay. For example sales8phd on ebay sells a drop in replacement 6 or 7Ah battery with a charger for ~$75. In general these batteries produce more flashes per charge than the lead acid oem batteries, particularly when shooting a lot of flashes in rapid sucession.

Dropped Flash

call olympus spares dept. You need the exact part number, which can sometimes be hard to get, sometimes they will fax the diagram so you can id the part. The spares dept tel # is hard to find. The links on olympus website will not get you there and the consumer hotline will not give the spares dept #. They now try to keep consumers from fixing stuff themselves and a lot of spares they no longer will sell to you. They used to be one of the best and very helpful. I managed to get a spare battery cover after a lot of hassle a while back, but they said they would not supply most parts for these newer flashes.

The filament on my unit may be burned out. Can it be replaced or is the unit now trashed?

If the tube is burned out, then you may be better off if you trash that unit and find a new flash. the electronics involved are high voltage and dangerous. So 1- if the part is available, 2- you can find somebody to replace it, and 3- that is the problem, not something else. The age of the flash is going to hinder you.

Dropped it. Doesn't turn on, and hear a rattling noise when I shake it gently. Is there a most likely broken part? Is self-repair possible? What does Nikon charge for repairs

At best you have probably broken the flash tube itself. If you are confident you can fix these yourself, nikon will sell you the replacement tube, cost is around £20 for the part and a couple of hours work. However there is a serious risk to your health due to very large voltages in the capacitor in the flash so unless you know how to handle this I wouldn't bother. Nikon will charge around £150 to replace the tube and service the flash. All of this assumes its the tube, if its something else then Nikon will not sell you the part because they say it goes against their health and safety guidelines, i.e. due to the high voltages, however I could never figure out why they sell the tubes because you have to open the flash to repair? Go figure...
I would be interested in buying it you decide not to reapir. Thanks Mark

Where can I buy nikon sb600 and sb800 spare parts. Need replacement infrared covers.

You have to order parts from the Nikon authorized service rep for your area. Call Nikon tech support for information. In some areas, Nikon will sell direct.
